Anyone have luck catching a feral chicken?? UPDATE: Rooster caught, no hen

My town has no restrictions except that you can't have a rooster. Apparently they are working on some sort of ordinance. If they don't grandfather me in they will have to pry my chickens away from me.
Prescott is an old city, they do not have a specific limit or number, just "not a nuisance" and no roosters. Why we are looking to move out of the city limits. Our county has some pretty picky rules, too, depending on the zoning.

Ugh. Just saw an article about a local city making laws about backyard chickens. (There aren't any currently and people are keeping chickens)

Coop must not be more then 4' x 4' x 4'. No more then 4 chickens and no rooster.

What city...I need to whip that person.

I had to cement in the floor of my coop, due to dogs digging in. I put a bunch of fresh straw on top, then throw whole corn in for them to mix the straw with the old straw. Really, do not have to shovel it out very often that way, look up "deep bedding". If it starts to cake up, throw in a little more corn!

I've seen a lot of these fights unfold over the last couple of years. Folks need to be armed with facts and shoot down the ignorant. People who nothing about chickens, come up with all kinds of things such as humanly raised, dirty, salmonella, and on and on. Best to be armed with animal welfare standards, from recognized organizations and true science about disease and cleanliness. Often it really boils down to someone thinks yards with chickens make the town look unsophisticated.

shelled is whole dried corn, what your cracked corn is made of. Reason we use shelled, is it lasts longer. I'd have to look up the shelf life on cracked corn. I wanna say 2 months, but just not sure.
The cracked corn I think is too small, as well as spoiling when it is opened. The whole feed corn they love, have to make them work for it. Whole scratch the same, but I think they do not pick it all up as well, small pieces attracted rodents in the CA area I used to live in. HATE rodents!

I can't wait to get hogs, they'll be in charge of tilling my garden and they work a lot faster than chickens when cleaning up the pasture.
Talk about how to get the code enforcement guys out! Lots of places we have looked at here I turn down due to the limits on "farm" animals. They let people have 4 horses, but only 8 chickens!
