Anyone have luck catching a feral chicken?? UPDATE: Rooster caught, no hen

Edited to add:
According to my chicken math calculations, that comment x2 any negative you had... So now you're at -20,002 chickens
You got a lot a coops to build, my friend!
Dylan's training is more like the bathtub chicken's. I noticed that she would hold it all night and took advantage by rewarding her and encouraging her when she went outside her cage. Then, started picking her up and holding her over the toilet in the morning. Treats for going in the toilet, so she has not gone in her overnight cage for about 3 months now. She goes 12 hours, 7pm to 7am.
I want to build a hoop-coop with hanging parrot cages above, chicken clean-up crew below. There is a tall hoop coop that I really like on the coop building thread.

It is MOiST here too!!!

And I was in laying in chick poop too. I think it is more of the feed that gets mixed with the poop, I don’t know. But a brooder area stinks!! I don’t know how people ferment food. I tried it and nearly vomited. When it gets mixed with water outside the coop I cannot deal with it.

It is easy enough to say a rooster found, but no hen. I mean, I am not reading through 300 pages. Get a grip “stay on topic” & “read the thread” people. So rude!
:yuckyuck

Same here! I do deep litter, so the run is a nice mix of dry loose dirt and broken down plant material. The girls looooooove to dig in it and I am pretty sure my two ISA browns are having a contest to see who can dig the biggest, deepest hole. I go in with a rake once a week to smooth things out. Mainly in self defense. I don't wanna break an ankle in one of their hidey-holes
My ISA's are quite the diggers too.

Just got sawdust for our coops and run. Well over $200 with delivery. I'm still shocked DH thinks this is a SAFER, less expensive *hobby* for me!!! :lau:lau
I like to use straw for here. It keeps the coop warmer (and it is cheaper. ;))
More pics.... kinda suck, kiddo was taking them... but anyone venture a guess as to breed (s)? The guy told me, they came with a roo... but the roo was charging at their customers. Said one day his brother basically drop kicked the roo and broke it's wing... and then he THINKS a fox or coyote got it... but no, never fixed it's wing or culled it or anything. After that story, I really had NO CHOICE but to figure out how to ge tthem out of that situation.
Red Sex Links and California Whites.

Pepper Pike. Just dumb if people have had chickens for a while. They said they decided to put it on the books because people kept calling and asking about an ordinance. Why not reply "there isn't one."

I understand maybe a lot size restriction. You don't want people with a postage stamp yard keeping 20 chickens. But that coop seems really small to me. I'd get 4 birds and 4 coops!

Did they even ask a person who knows chickens what a chicken should have?
I was just thinking the same thing. :)

OK my Squatch Frands.... what should I do? I posted about the 6 ladies being housed outside of the mulch place and asked about quarantine and have been basically told to NOT DO IT.

What say you all?

Edit to Add: They say to not get the girls at all..... just in case you don't feel like reading my tiny, little thread. ;)

Ok, I'm late to the party (as usual), had to drop off flyers at the milk guy's place, hoping to sell 10 turkeys.

Smuvers, As has been pointed out... Your flock has already been minimally exposed. That said, I would check them over closely, pay close attention to their poop for worms, coci, etc. And keep them in quarantine for a month. Me, just being me, would probably would probably give them a can of pink salmon once a week while in quarantine and add some sav-a-chick to their water. If all are fine in a month, move them within eye shot of your birds for a week or two and then see how the mingling goes.

Chicken talk is it's own birth control. :lau There should be a chicken people dating site. "Meet local crazy chicken people"
think I saw an ad for a horse on like this the other day.

*sigh* This thread takes up way to much of my BYC time.

Thoughts on this please>>>>In order to avoid any trouble, perhaps this thread should be moved to the Random Ramblings???

As a soft-hearted bird person, I have adopted strays all my life. They seem to be local, so they have been exposed to the same conditions as yours already. Mistreatment can be overcome, but age can not. Layer breeds are slaughtered after 2 years because of low production. At age 3, my Orpingtons ate way more than they were worth. At age 4, even Leghorns don't lay much any more. Some, but do you want to feed a bird for a year for 2 months of eggs, is the question. For your cute pets, raised from an egg, yes. For rescue birds you do not know, you might have to consider that you will need to cull them soon. Do you want to get attached, just to cull them? Only you -- @Smuvers Farm -- know the answer to that question.
