Anyone have or had Barnevelders?

Ideal is one of the hatcheries I saw that had them. Wellsummers are my second choice after Barnevelders as they are related fairly closely. i will only have 4-6 hens so I will not be breeding either which is why personality is more important than eggs. I would however, like a few more eggs than 100 per year as Nadine mentioned!

I agree. I read they lay about 170 eggs per year so Nadine's comment concerned me a bit. I was hoping for at least 140. I am not selling eggs for a living but would like enough eggs for us! How do you like your Cubalayas?

Nope, mine have never offered to go broody and my oldest girls are 2 years old, almost 3 years.
My KC line are my best layers but I still don't think they are show quality but they probably came from a show line.
I also have a few Ideal pullets, 6 months old, not even thinking of laying. Not very good quality, imho but I wanted them to work with.
I also have a few other bloodlines unknown to me that still do not lay well. Everyone has molted or not old enough to molt.

I do have a young cockeral from Johan that I am excited about getting daughters from. Maybe that will help me out. I am just disgusted at the poor amount of eggs and it is probably something I am doing wrong. Though my other breeders are doing very well.
I am talking with others on the Barnevelder list and have a few ideas from there that I am going to try. I really love them and do not want to get rid of any but I can't afford to feed them just for their beauty.

When you try the new ideas let me know what they are and if they work!! What does KC stand for?

KC is the Kelly Cratty bloodline.

I'll let you know if anything works. I am at the point of realizing one schedule of ideals does not work for all breeds and I really thought I had plenty of options but I have to be doing something wrong.
