Anyone Have the Churchill Coop by Brinsea?

Rubiesmom:

I am brand new to chicken keeping and trusted Brinsea's recommendation that the Winscombe could fit at least three birds, but your review has me worried. Do you think my three Silver Laced Wynadottes will outgrow the Windcombe coop and run? Its mild year-round here in CA and the chickens have a big yard and lots of free-ranging time, but now that I've done the calculations on the Winscombe, the coop is only 4.5 square feet interior space and the run is 19 square feet. Do you think that is too small for three chickens?

Sorry I didn't keep up with the posts, it's been a busy 6 weeks! I think you probably already can tell by now how your 3 are fitting. I have 12 each in 2 different large snap lock plastic coops. Nobody wants to spend the night in the Churchill but everyone likes laying in there, go figure! I can't tell my husband I bought a $700 nesting box so if I ever need to seperate our 2 accidental rooosters from the flock I will be building an enclosure around that coop although many laying girls will be disappointed! I'm hoping it all worked out for you, they are cute little coops anyways and reasonably easy to clean. Trish

I have this coup and would not recommend purchasing it. It is poorly made and does not fit together well. Additionally, it is super heavy and isn't easy to clean, especially for one person. Just my two cents.

I have a Churchill coop.

1. We have 4 Bluebelles and I would say 5 would be enough in the coop, maybe 6 at a push.
2. It is quite heavy to move, but less so with the removable floor taken out.
3. The removable floor is a good idea in theory. But, when you slide it out, the chicken poos simply fall off inside the coop, so you need to take the side off, clean it as best you can, then slide out with the rest of the litter.
4. Well ventilated and not too hot for the chickens.
5. Easy to clean with a power hose because of its plastic construction. Deters red mite.
6. The nesting boxes are in the main body of the coop, so, when roosting, the hens tend to foul them. My cleaning solution is as follows:-

Get a piece of plastic cut to cover the nesting boxes and, once they've finished laying, place it over the nesting boxes. In the morning, remove this and clean it. Remove any poos in the coop with a scoop and replace any litter if needs be. Dead easy! Takes less than 5 minutes every morning, and means you hardly ever have to give the coop a full clean. Once a week, clean the roosting slats.
