anyone have whitetail deer ?

I guess I should edit my statement to say we can't keep wild born white tail deer legally. They must have documentation of origin...we recently had some breeders in East Texas get into some hot water with the wardens for not having the required documentation on their native species deer. I believe the deer must be captive raised.

All I know is that we end up with white tailed deer rehab cases confiscated from people who "rescued" them from the wild as babies, and tried to keep them as pets all the time. Breeders may have different permits?

That is a pretty insane amount of money...if I had that much spare cash...I would totally go for an austin martin...or two lol.

Yes that the same here.......people alway think if they see a fawn ,by itself it mother has lost it.......doe deer will not bed near their fawn, because fawn have very little scent....so safer from predators.

Game wardens if some states will try to trick deer farmers.......i even had call from people if i would take in fawns.........noway

One got busted ,can't remember what state.....older lady beg this breeder to take in a fawn she found , said she didn't know how to care for it....soon as she pull out of the driveway, game warden pulled in bust him. which he was in the wrong......

Having a permit here doesn't cost much, but you better keep good records who you sell to and buy from. they may drop in at any hours and check your paper work, or your animals...without any notice.

Big super fine and lost of permit if found removing any from the wild, not mater the type.....i also had someone try to tell me where a wild turkey nest if i wanted the eggs. (smell like a trap) at the time i was raising alot of pheasant and quail for sell.

deerman, you are as bad as me. We had a trophy buck running here for several years. Every hunter around had seen it and was getting up every morning trying to kill it. This includes some of my own family.

The funny thing was he came to a honeysuckle thicket just across from our front porch (About 50') every single morning and ate. Terra would throw old apples, pears, stuff like that out for him. So majestic, so wonderful just to watch him. He would watch us, was wary but too smart to be scared.

It was a sad day when I heard someone finally killed him.

We have both Whitetail and Sika Deer in our area. We have a 14 acre farm, and a herd of 13 Sika Deer live here, they are very tame, I can get as close as 5 feet from one at any time. My horse enjoys their company and shares her food with them. They eat together, I have even seen them walk right under her belly. Often a doe and her 2 fawns will come right up to the house & eat grass or lay down for a nap. Here are some pics of our cuties.

Don't have any, but I've wanted some for quite some time.

maybe in a couple years, as far as I know you don't have to have a permit in my area because they are already so plentiful(considered a major pest and last year was even an open season for them) you are even legally

allowed to take wild fawns and raise them.my friend has some that aren't really "his" they are wild fawns he rescued and allowed to go wild.he keeps large neon orange hunting dog collars on all 5 of his (3 does and 2 bucklings from last year)all three of the does (ages 5,4,and 3 years old always come back to his yard to either give birth, or bring their couple day old fawns to "show off" fawn season is the ONLY time he cannot get near the adult does, otherwise they will walk right up and eat corn and oats out of his hand, the two bucks are stand-offish until fall time, in the rut they get friendly (as a few others have suggested), but mostly they chase the wild does that come onto his property, and his dogs lol.

the oldest doe gave birth to triplets this spring, she actually somehow jumped the goat pen fence and birthed in the goat barn

, she abandoned the weaked of the three fawns, and one of my friends goats actually took it in because she had a kid not two days before, unfurtunately the fawn died two days after birth.

Yes, there is. I think it is bow season now, and you can hunt them with guns Thanksgiving weekend until some time in January? Not exactly sure when the season ends. Wow, I didn't know they were trying to get rid of them at Assateague. Last time I was there (4-5 years ago) they were plentiful on the Island.
