my dad used to hunt with ferret, and my brother & cousin still do here in the uk.
you find your rabbit burrow, you put nets over the holes you can find, then drop your ferret down (they fit through the nets).
You hope the rabbits will be scared and run for the holes you netted (there are usually a few you didn't spot to net..)
when you see the rabbits come up and get caught in the net, you grab 'em and wring their necks.
but you train your ferrets. You teach them to come to you. You don't want them killing and eating down there.
and you hope there's not a big male rabbit down there prepared to stand and fight, a big rabbit can kill a ferret in a hole.
we had rabbit for dinner quite a lot when I was a kid...
