I can sure ask them for a photo or 2. I haven't done EE's myself in a long time, I do recall the 3 of us all got our birds the same time at the same place, and we were told they were hatchery grade from Murray lines. When I use to hatch, I'd get 1 or 2 out of every few dozen, which isn't really a lot but it was only those birds that done it so I figured it had to be because of where they came from. My friends had the same thing happen. I eventually got rid of mine and my friends thought it was neat so they started breeding them, though I believe it's only a small percentage of their hatch that have no butt...lol I suppose there could have been something else thrown in there since EE's are a mix mutt bird anyway. Majority of the time I believe they are accidental mutations in all breeds but for it to happen more would more than likely make them recessive. I know I haven't went with birds derived from a line of hatchery birds since them aside from guineas and a few turkeys.Firekin,
Your friends who are breeding rumples and tail less birds, do they have pictures they would like to share? I would love to see them. Perhaps they are looking for these genes but with different blood for their flock? I am located in the Pacific Northwest USA, Washington State. I don't know about the Murray lines, I have never bought chicks from any hatchery however, I do not know the origin though of the few adult hens that I started my flock with or have brought into my flock.
