Anyone impatiently waiting for your baby chicks to arrive?!?!

Yep - those are expensive! However, cost isn't always measured by amount, and if either of those businesses have even a modicum of professionalism, customer service, or respect for the people who are buying their product, they are miles ahead of their competition.

yeah I have to agree with you. I personally don't have any experience with either of those hatcheries so I can't recommend any.

I also want some cream legbars, but I'm waiting for a craigslist add (I know, risky...) to pop up for them. =D

I noticed the hatchery you cancelled your order at, had eggs. you can incubate! =)

No, I don't believe they sell eggs. Plus, even if they did, I doubt they would be any more professional to work with simply because I switched from chicks to eggs. Hatching eggs received through the mail have such low successful hatch rates, I am not willing to endure so much disappointment. I at least want to start with a living, breathing chick.

I'll totally post pictures when my chicks get here ;)
I really like Ideal. I've ordered from them a couple of times. The birds I've gotten from them have been pretty nice and their customer service has been wonderful. They respond promptly to my emails and have been helpful and courteous when I've called with questions or to change or add to my order. I'd definitely recommend them, but I'm not all that hard to please. As long as my chicks get here alive and are healthy, I'm happy :)

We are about to get our first chicks this weekend. I have been thinking about getting into chickens for 2 years now, just kept getting scared off thinking they would be too much work or too hard to keep alive. I have been doing research, and now have 3 friends with chickens...who make it look like no big deal :)

We are starting off small with a mixed flock of 6. I have decided to get one each of...
Ameraucana (supposedly the real deal and not an EE...I don't care either way)
Barred Plymouth Rock
Silver Laced Wyandotte
Salmon Faverolle
Buff Brahma
and a Barnevelder.

They will be for eggs and pets. I am so excited!!!

I can not get any more impatient...I ordered the chicks first :) now have the coop & run built...got all supplies ready.(food, waterers, lamp & extra bulbs, bedding, etc).

Ugh two more months....

I ordered 15 Marans pullets from Meyers (Black Copper, Blue Splash, Golden Cuckoo, and Cuckoo)...this is more than we are allowed so are going to sell some after the kids are done brooding them and pick their hens.

That is just sad. Sorry you had such a bad experience with a small hatchery. I am dealing with a local breeder and so far I couldn't ask for a better experience.

I have 6 Buff Orp pullets and 2 roos along with 4 straight run Splash Cochin Bantams ordered for the end of March first of April and can hardly wait! I have a brooder ready for them and still need to test out the lighting system for heat a bit and get a few things like a water supplier and I'm good to go.

Unfortunately, they are just a sparkle in their daddy's eye right now. I'll probably start counting down from around March 10th.
