Anyone impatiently waiting for your baby chicks to arrive?!?!

I have Black Australorps, Barred Rocks and an Ameraucana (EE) and they all get along just fine.
Wonderful! I've heard the BOs can get along with just about anything. So EE = Easter Egger = Americauna?? I didn't know that when I ordered, just briefly read the description and grabbed them to fill in the minimum order. Now I'll have to go research them. The others I knew quite a bit about (from reading) but hey - I've got Easter Eggers now! Back to the books...always more to learn.

With an April 15 ship date, I can see I'm going to have to live vicariously through those of you posting "tomorrow!!" so please, please update as soon as they get here (pictures, too?).

Yes, McMurray's "Araucanas" are Easter Eggers. Here is a pic of my older McMurray EE "Nosy Nelly" and I'll get a pic of the new babies for you soon. Her name is such because she is definitely the most nosy (curious) of all my flock. She's very friendly (jumps on your shoulder) and sweet mannered.

I am in Lawrenceburg. We are not far from each other. I am waiting on chicks the week of April 20th from my pet chicken.
2 RIR
2 Barred Rocks
2 Gold Laced Wyandotte's
2 Easter Eggers
5 Rare Breed Assortment

Can't wait!

Leanne (love the name - I have a Leighanne), she is very pretty! Looking at some pictures, there are really unique color combinations. I found many of them far nicer than the "pure" bred chickens as far as colors; lots of fun to see how they turn out! Mine are all going to be just fun/pets/eggs, no breeding or exhibition, so I don't really care about "mutts". Yes, more pics please!

You've very close. I guess you're loving the weather this past week (and now), too. My first shipment was due to be shipped the day after The Snow, which left me unable to get down my drive to the road for 9 days. Meyer thought I was nuts I'm sure but I had to convince them that Kentucky was closed and that even if they survived 13 below zero temps, I couldn't get to the PO and they couldn't get to me. They did fully refund.

Do you haves roos, or...if I receive a roo in this shipment, do you want one? I have no idea what the mystery chick will be but if it's a roo, I just can't keep it and don't eat meat. Lol, I say that as if I could raise one and then kill it if I did eat meat.

Thanks! I am really excited, 4 of them will be here Saturday :) We took a trip to the feed store today, got chick starter, dishes, bulb...so we can have everything ready to go.

I picked up some packets of electrolyte mix from Save A Chick...the feed store guy said it was a good idea. Does anyone here use or rec it? They also had probiotics, but he said I probably wouldn't need that?

Anything else I need to get started?
IMHO the guy at the feed store was wrong Probiotics are an absolute need for chicks especially if you have Cornish X, you might want to check out the Fermented Feed thread to view the pros and cons regarding Probiotics and Fermented Feed. Saves you alot in the stink factor, lol! Vitamins are also a must for the first few days and even my 1 year olds get a dose once or 2 a week. Good Luck.

This weather is the pits. I know New England has it far worse, but a foot of snow out in the hilly countryside can be quite tricky. We don't have any chickens yet, and when I looked outside during the storm I was thankful for that. We do have horses that had to be tended to in a foot of snow, and sub zero temps, but they are a little hardier I think. We live on a gravel road that doesn't get plowed, so it is rough getting out, 4WD was the only thing that saved us. "Kentucky was closed" that made me laugh. Hubby and daughter did make it to UK on Wednesday, but I was very happy to see them close Thurs and Fri.

I am glad you were able to change your order.

I ordered all pullets, so keeping fingers crossed there are no surprises. I am in the same boat, don't really want a rooster, but I am not sure what we would do if we end up with one. Have you joined the Lawrenceburg Chicken Swap page on Facebook? They are always swapping and selling chickens, you could probably find someone to take your roo.

Okay, so I just got back from tha PO and he told me I can't pick them up because they don't open the doors until 10:30 am. So not to bother coming early. He said they will land at the airport about 6 am, then hope they get to the distribution center before my mailman leaves for his route. If they don't THEN I will be called to come pick them up. Maddening. I don't think I'm going to be able to sleep tonight. I'm kind of a mess!! My poor chicks.
