Anyone in WV???

I won't b participating in th hatch along. I've bn hatching for couple months now and brooders are full.

Eggorthechicken...at what age can you put ducklings outside without heat? I have a Khaki and a Black Sweedish that are three weeks old in a bin/brooder in a bedroom of my house, whew do they stink up th place fast! Their duck house is ready now but I don't want t freeze their tail feathers off, they don't even HAVE tail feathers yet! Lol!

I wait until mine have feathers to put them outside or the weather is warmer. Right now unless you had a place with heat I wouldn't until they got some feathers (unless they were hatched from a broody) ..funny thing is that it seems they feather out better when they do go outside. I have a place in a building outside that I keep a brooder for babies too and I use a brinsea Eco glow brooder for them. They don't require heat as long as chickens do. They just grow twice as fast.

I have Mille Fluer Duccles, they are starting to lay a little bit right now. I could do hatching eggs sometime this spring if you are interested. It wouldnt be for a little bit though do to the weather. Im in Morgantown if interested give me a message.

I saw some Mille fleur at the ohio national show and they are stinkin cute. I've had to swear off bantams though...they keep getting eaten by hawks and other predators. I got several silkies from the show and they all were gone within a couple days. :0(

That would be awesome! =) I wish I could get all my flock locally without buying from hatcheries, but the more exotic breeds are so hard to find around here. I love chickens with speckles!! =D

Oh no! I have also had many hawks and owls get approximately 30 chickens of mine in the last year and a half. I have since put caged roofs over all my pens and only let them out when I'm outside with my shot gun :) I live in a very wooded area and have many birds of prey around. You can hear the hawks calling each other all the way down the holler. The hawks and owls do not seem to care if it is a bantam or large fowl around my place. They will take whatever they can grab. Good luck

I will let you know around when I would be able to get some good hatching eggs. I have two roosters in the pen with 7 hens so the fertility should be pretty good. The last hatch I did last year, I got some mixed colors out of them. Some of them were the original Mille Fluer coloring but some were much darker, almost like a buff Colombian color with mille fluer speckels.

These birds are probably not show quality but they are still spectacular and beautiful.
