Anyone in WV???

I lost my favorite little girl this morning, I'm so bummed! She was a White crested Black Polish, 14 wks old. She had such a sweet disposition and daffy personality. I'm going to miss her. I found her three days ago all fluffed up and just "sitting" in the pen when all the others her age were running around grabbing up every bite of grain I was tossing out. I put her in a "sick" pen so I could keep an eye on her. While in there's she wouldn't eat nor drink, I got a dropper of vitamins and electrolytes down her and coaxed her into a nibble of yoghurt but she wouldn't eat on her own. Today when I went t check on her she was shaking so I wrapped her in a large towel and cuddled with her a minute then she had a bad seizure got stiff and died. After she died I gave her a very thorough once over. She had a couple places on her head that looked like she had bn pecked at, her feet n legs were ice cold! I think that she may have bn poisoned. My neighbor told me Sunday that he had bn seeing Rats around his property (he is a horder and his property looks like a junk yard), he said he was going t put out rat poison t get rid of his supposed infestation. Im thinking she may have found some of it when she was out Monday afternoon free ranging. Anytime we lose one of our birds its upsetting but to lose one like this and not know why is devastating!

Is there anyone in North Central WV that has White Crested Black Polish Large Fowl? I still have Dilly and Mohawk (a pullet and a cockerel) but I was wanting another two pullets for a decent breeding group. Thank you.

Anyone know of some nice farmers markets or local produce shops around Charleston area? I keep going to the one on Smith Street, maybe I'm just timing it badly but I'm always a bit disappointed with the turnout... seems to be mostly flowers outside, and Purple Onion's "local produce" still had Dole stickers on them.

Maybe in a couple years when I get OUT of the city I'll be asking around for my own chickies too

I believe there is an East End market once a week -

You can have chickens in Charleston, up to six hens.
I order from www.monroefarmmarket.com they have something like 25-30 different producers and deliver to Charleston every Thursday.

Six? Thought it was three.

Thanks! Forgot about that, I'm never in that part of town. Ever been to that market?

I may be mistaken, but everyone I've ever seen mention it says six.
I just found WV Farm to Family CSA on Facebook also. Looks like they have a weekly dropoff point at Ashton Place :)
I've been a customer of the Monroe market for over a year and love it. I buy beef from a local farm and T&M though, but Monroe offers meat of all kinds if you're interested. I love the variety with so money producers on board.
