If you mean a competition, I don't think we have any organized chicken shows in WV.

Maybe we should all get together and have one, no way am I going to try to organize something like that though!

What part of Boone Co are you in?

i keep thinking Flatwoods too. I love the idea of it, even if I don't have any show quality birds.

I have never shown birds. However, i think my Wheaten Ameracaunas might qualify as show quality.

(I'm sorry I think I spelled it wrong, though)

Anyway, they are very beautiful birds who lay incredible eggs.

I could never organize a show but would go if someone else did.

Hmm, my Welsummers come from good lines.

Hi All,

I'm new to the chicken world. I live about 10 miles west of Morgantown in a tiny town called Core, WV (western Monongalia County). We ordered our chicks from Mt. Healthy Hatchery in June, split an order with some neighbors. We have 9 roosters heading to the freezer in a few weeks. We have Buff Orpingtons, Barred Rocks and 2 easter eggers. No eggs just yet, but soon hopefully. We are keeping 9 hens and 1 BR roo. I grew up with horses, sheep, goats, rabbits and cats. Having chickens has been quite entertaining. I couldn't believe how fast they grew and now the dynamics in the flock is just so interesting to watch...who needs TV, right!

Glad to see there are some other WV folks here!

Oh, hey, I go through Core all the time on my way to Morgantown. My doctors are mostly at WVU, Star City of course.

Since most of our local people see this I will post this here.

I may be interested in buying some laying pullets/hens. Rather than breed I am most interested in producing fresh eggs from these hens to distribute through Sparrow Ministries. Cost IS an issue but I am interested in hearing about any that is availble for sale In the Charleston/Huntington Area.
