If so, how many "packing peanuts" did you get with your order? I'm toying with getting a trio of Cuckoo Marans pullets, but I'm concerned about how many little extras would make the trip with the three chicks.

I ordered from Ideal Poultry. They only have a $25 minimum, not 25 chick minimum. You can call right after you order and pay for the insurance (which was around $1.75) and they won't include any extra male chicks. I ordered 12 and got 12. Most are $3 so you would only need to order 8 because after tax you'd be over the $25 mark.

Thanks for the Ideal info, CowgirlPenny. It's defininetly something to keep in mind for the future, but for now I'm looking specifically for Meyer Hatchery details. Their minimum is three chicks, and with the two feet of snow and 8 more inches expected, I don't think spring will be here in 20 days! I hadn't thought about a heating pad, Kavellion, but that would keep three nice and warm, versus sticking a bunch of extra chicks in there. Meyer does state that they will include extras for warmth, up to 4 percent of the ordered total. So that would be, what, a quarter of a chick???? Ack.

Kavellion, were the two Marans replacements? If not, how did you manage to just get the two instead of three?

Well I got 8 total but two were marans and the Marans look great. The other six look really good also. Its my first hatchery try and I can say I would do it again cause my feed store only sells RIR and Australorps so can't say wat another hatchery is like but unless you want a whole bunch or wanna hatch ur own I would buy from Meyer I can show you a pic of the cukoo maran chicks if you want?

I lost my only cuckoo last week to a hawk and want another. She was the sweetest and friendliest chicken I ever had maybe just maybe I could by a few more. Let me know how it goes for your order and I might follow suit. I have to many chicks right now.

I saw your pics of the new little guys... what vitamins did you use to turn the water green? I forgot to post how cute they are (5:30 AM call, yeeesh! But I'm up then anyway, so why not?)! But more than the breed, I'm concerned about the quantity. If I were to order three anything from Meyer, what else would I get for the journey up here to the frozen North?

I dont think they put anything but the three cause three is the minimum and since you live in mich and they are in ohio I would think they would get there very fast. I just got some chicken vitamins at the feed store here I read somewhere that it helps them. I also have 6 Appenzeller Spitzhauben eggs in a incubator. These are the cuckoo's

Excellent! Not that I'm ordering any more chicks at this point in time, as tempting as it may be. I did see they're only 2-hour drive away, and near a favorite amusement park of my family's. Summer outing, maybe!

The Cuckoos are adorable!
