Anyone keeping a rooster in a no rooster zone?

I have one little Spanish Rosecomb roo who tries to crow-- but it sounds more like a toddler whining.

I'm in a no rooster zone too... Luckily we placed our coop and pen next to the house that has been unoccupied for over a year. Whew!

I had a friend who wasn't allowed to have any roosters, so at night he would put the roo in a dark box in the garage so nothing can get to it and then put him back outside around 8 o'clock before work and no one ever said anything. At that point most people were already starting their day, so no one cared

i have read about this box theory - if a roo can't stand erect and crane his neck to crow, he won't. just as long as my (boy?!?) isn't a 'day crower' we should be good as gold if we stick to this! he did peck my cat on the head the other day though, so he needs to ALSO mind his manners if he wants to stay. 2 mos BR with a VERY red comb. still hoping for the best!

We kept our beloved Beaky for a year before our neighbors complained, so we had to rehome him. He left behind fertilized eggs which our three hens hatched out. Now we have (gulp) six or seven little roos to find new homes for.
