Anyone know? Cornish Xs & egglaying

I forgot to mention that I basically have a flock within a flock. Though the CXs live with my layer chicks and both have done well, the CXs pretty much stick together; without alot of interaction with the layer chicks - except for my one silkie that is convinced she is a CX. She cuddles up with them all the time.

Sorry it took so long , I was waiting for fresh eggs but got only 1 yesterday and none today . Here's a look at the first double along with 3 others that show the diversity in color from my CX .

These were laid more recently ; the 7 to the left are from CX pullets compared to the 5 white Grade A Large from the grocery store .

Since both of my young Ameraucana roos are afraid of my big girls and I'm not getting any fertile eggs , I turned a CX cockeral loose in their pen this afternoon . He covered two of them in the 15 minutes I stayed to see what would happen .

This is a very interesting thread. Thanks to all of you for the interesting information. Are you saving the CX's to breed with another CX, or are you crossing them with dual purpose? I would like to raise my own meat chicks by crossing a dual purpose with a CX. I have CX's ready to process. If I was to keep one should I keep a cockerel or a pullet? If I keep the cockerel and breed him with my Cuckoo Marans and RIR hens will I get some breasty chicks? Would the results be any different if I kept a pullet to cross with a DP roo?
Thanks in advance.

I hope Steve or Brunty will be along to answer your questions cpchicks. My CXs are rescues from a commercial broiler house and won't be eaten. I don't have anything against eating meat, love fried chicken myself and admire those that raise their own meat. It just wasn't meant to be for these guys. They will live out their lives with me, for however long that should be.

I have not yet made a cross , just working on it to make a large , dual purpose , blue/green egg layer . Katy has successfully crossed a Marans roo with CX pullets . The chesty Marans worked excellently on the CX as evidenced on this page : https://www.backyardchickens.com/forum/viewtopic.php?id=316007&p=8

I
believe a RIR would work well also , especially if had a true [ larger than most hatchery type ] RIR to work with .

One of the CX pullets squatted for my cockerel yesterday, so it shouldn't be long.

Can you imagine what a turken/CX cross would look like?
