Anyone know the clinical name for "human equivalent of pink eye" in Chickens?

Is it conjunctivitis?

A friend of mine was terribly worried about her flock. Results came in and she forgot the name of the disease, but said: "great news my chickens only have the human equuvalent of pink eye, i forget the medical he used as i was driving. So finish cocxi treatment and then start antibiotics for 10 days.: )"

I think it is conjunctivitis. I also believe that Veterycin has an eye gel/spray just for that, too.

Is it something that reoccurs? It's not coryza in that matter is it?

Well, I was just looking at this avian atlas link I keep on hand and conjunctivitis can be present in several respiratory infections. Coryza being one of them. I'll put the link in here. When you get to the main page, click on "show all diseases" and it'll show you a list of diseases as well as pictures, descriptions, disease profiles and necropsy findings. Some of the pics though are hard to look at, at least for me so just a warning there!

There was a necropsy done and the vet just said it was the human form of pink eye (he is an agricultural vet - not a regular vet). Coreyza was my first thought when she told me about symptoms, and that was mentioned to the doctor. He didn't suggest it at the end.

I know that "pink eye" can reoccur in people. I don't see why not in chickens. I guess though it depends on if it's accompanied by anything else like runny nose, sneezing or wheezing. In that case it wouldn't be "just" pink eye.

I'd imagine the vet might've done a culture on the eye to find out what was going on and would probably know what he/she is talking about IF they are familiar with poultry. Sounds like they are. If others start showing symptoms though, I'd be concerned. Pink eye is contagious though so, it's really hard to say.
