I'm interested in having chickens and a couple miniature goats.

I'm told that I couldn't have a rooster on 6 acres. This astounds me because I can have a rooster on my 1/2 acre lot in Los Angeles.

I've become thoroughly addicted to the sound of his crowing. I don't really want to have to give that up.

Charter & Code has a pdf for animals and fowl.

Found this:
Quantities Limited. No person may keep a rooster, nor maintain more than six hens on a single parcel. Those
persons lawfully possessing more than six hens as of November 9, 2015, may retain those birds but not replace them.

Thanks! I got a link to the city counsel (or whatever) from the real estate agent. I was going to get in touch with them on Monday but I appreciate the immediate heads up.

That seems so unnecessarily restrictive! It is what it is but it doesn't seem very reasonable to me.

I'll still contact them on Monday and see what restrictions there might be if I intended to breed chickens.

One interesting thing: the Victory Garden Act was never formally repealed. So technically, unless you Live in a private land association, a good attorney can often get around many ordinances about hens, but not roosters, unfortunately. Roosters fall under different statutes because they aren’t needed for eggs, which were the need during WW2, so fall under noise violations.

seems unfair when we love our roosters. Some people have had success by getting all their neighbors to sign on asking for an exemption on the grounds it enhances the atmosphere of the neighborhood or such, but if even one neighbor hates the noise, well, that’s it.
