Then he'll most likely molt into his mottling when he's a bit older. When we had Mottled Cochins, they were the same way. Started as black with white bellies, juvenile plumage was the same, and their adult molt resulted in their breed's classic look.

Depends on if he has the chocolate or dun gene. They're different and only test breeding would confirm what he and likely all the others have. Chocolate breeds true, while dun behaves like blue, only with black, dun, and khaki.
