I am new here, I actually was searching google to figure out what kind of breed my new duckling is, and I saw a pic someone had posted here that looked very similar. So I was hoping someone could help? We bough a couple new ducklings today, but are not sure the breed of one. We figured he has to be a Magpie or an Ancona, and I think he may be tufted, as he has a little mohawk thing.

Can anyone help?

Hmm well the lil guy def. has a crested gene. Not sure about the colors though Its been a few years since I raised my Ancona's from duckling's.If it were Magpie or Ancona it would not have as much black coloring it should be yellow with black patches instead of the opposite.Anyone else can chime in but this lil guy does have a "nubbin".Looks to me like rouen or mallard/ crested mix.Cute duckie's. I know they aren't mallards as the hatchery these came from do not keep them anymore. The farm store we got them from did not know species but told me up font they do not carry mallards. Apparently they are hard to get this year?

Thanks for the input and if anyone else can help, let me know.

I saw a post here and I will link it below, to a duckling that looked quite similar. it is midway down the page, and they have it listed as a a crested magpie? I think. The Anconas are so similar, I am not sure how to tell the difference!

Here's the page

That's what I thought, I just have no clue how to tell the difference. Is there any signature attribute of one or the other? lol

And we're all in agreement he/she is tufted right?

Thank you! I have been leaning towards Magpie myself but I am certainly no expert. That's why I came here!

OH and does anyone have any pics of crested magpies, so I can see how they look as adults?

Not an Ancona and I do not think it is a Magpie. So no help from me but I can eliminate Ancona for you. Cute little thing.

I found several google images for Crested Magpie, and someone who posted here has a crested Magpie, I posted a link above.

He looks almost identical to the one someone posted here.
