Anyone know what this is? Raspberry?

Exactly. After the second year and fruiting, the cane dies out. Those are ones that should be removed. Makes it easier to deal with the bushes and helps to hold down plant diseases/insects that can harm your plants.

Oh boy, then we could potentially have hundreds of blackberry bushes. I have a lot of work ahead of me, but am excited thinking about fresh berries! Mmmm...blackberry cobbler and berries and cream.

Show side view of one of the canes. Raspberry has fine thorns that cover the cane. Black berry had longer thorns spread out along the length of the cane, while the cane it'self is smooth.
I tried to get a picture but could not get my camera to focus on the cane...too many other things to focus on. However, the cane is smooth and the thorns are more spread out.

So, here is the biggest area that they are growing in. I took a few pictures...you can see the tractor for size reference. That whole area around the tractor was mowed down but they are coming back up. The second picture shows the area where they were not cut down and are thick but mostly dead canes.
Plus a bonus! I think I found a wild blueberry bush! I am not 100 percent positive but it sure looks like blueberry blossoms.

Yep those are blueberries :D

Eta: looks a lot like what grows at my parents place. If you look around you might be able to find winter green too.

Its minty. The red berries have a star shape on the bottom. The berries and leaves are edible and you can make tea from the leaves too.

Pretty much what the group expected- blackberries. The bushhogged area probably won't produce much until next year and it would be a good idea to clear as much of the dead canes as possible in the other area. Enjoy your berries and any other discoveries on your property. Who knows what other useful plants will only become apparent as flowers/fruit/nuts come in.

My small backyard orchard is beginning to mature nicely. Looks like three more trees are going to be producing fruit for the first time this year- one plum and two apricot. :woot
