I got Rosetta Stone for my kids and decided that we would learn together how to speak a foreign language. My girls wanted Japanese because they like some of the Jrock on youtube.

Today, I loaded the program and have tried to use it. I like the immersion method of teaching but I would like just a little more grammar.

Are there any simple books on Japanese grammar that we can start with? If you know of any simple books that can start us reading Japanese that would be great too. I don't care if they are very simple or even kids books. You have to start somewhere.

Have any of you used Rosetta Stone? Were you eventually able to speak in the language that you chose to learn?

I will ask my 19 year old when she gets home later. She took 4 years of immersion Japanese through school (very intense) and went to Japan twice. I do know that she has a DS game called Japanese tutor that she still messes around with to keep the language fresh. (She has been out of high school for almost 2 years now)

Somewhere in her pigsty room (more clothes than any one child should own) there are a couple of grade school japanese grammer books. I'm not sure where she got them though. Might have been through her Japanese teacher who is from Japan.

We have the spanish rosetta stone, it's awesome. I found it's much more natural to learn grammer through the immersion process then to spend time studying and memorizing. I would recommend it to anyone serious about learning a new language. (I do mean serious, this program is not cheap!)

I got the homeschool version. Yeah. If I spend that much on a program, I want to learn to speak the language.

I am doing this with my kids so that we can learn together.

I am guessing that I will have a tougher time then my kids.
