Anyone Love Horses?

Not all Arabs have that hot Arab temperment. It does take some looking, but there are some very calm gentle ones out there. I know of a local therapy program here that had five purebred Arabs in the program. They were used with multi handicapped children for riding. I would just look around before writing them off. If you find the right one, your mom might change her mind.

How much hay does a pasture horse need? I'm gathering info before having a huge Congo with my parents

Depends on how much pasture & the quality of same.

For a horse to live exclusively on pasture you need to figure a minimum of 2.5 acres per horse. Any less than that and it just turns into a mud bath after a while.

I really prefer mine to have free choice hay throughout the winter, preferably in a hay circle or (better, but I don't have one yet!) a hay rack w/ a roof on it to keep the rain out of the hay so it doesn't get spoilt. Letting them munch on that saves your grass a good bit, plus it's said they stay warmer in the winter when they have hay to munch!
