Anyone making a Silver Laced Orpington?

What about the comb shape? Is that going to be hard to get to be consistant? Which color of roo would be best to use? I was thinking black, but I would have the option of any of those.

I'd expect the first generation to look pretty much as Dipsy Doodle Do described. One would not usually expect any laced offspring from a first cross black to silver laced.

I don't think you'd have too much to worry about with comb. As you probably know, non rose comb (r+) is recessive; both breeds have reasonably neat compact combs.

Yeah, since the single comb SLW's have smaller combs like the orps its a good thing, single comb is easy to work with. I personally would use a splash to get all blue F1 then do blue to black if possible, why not get 2 projects done at the same time if you can.

Katy, Have you considered using buff females?

There could be some benefits from going that route.

I'm working on Gold Laced Orpingtons and my first generation roosters do have a little lacing. The females are all solid.
