There is a poster on youtube called Deist Paladin. He has some great videos explaining his views.

Molly's folly, you are right. Parents are supposed to teach children the basics of courteous behavior but I worry that some families do not do so.

mom'sfolly :

When did we become a nation where civility and basic human decency is so rare that it has to be taught in the workplace? Isn't this something that families and religious groups should be teaching? ARGHHHH!!!!

edited 'cause I can't spell.........

I guess that happened when the parents, the ones who really should be doing it, started to forget their responsibilities. And as for the religious groups doing it, that's one of the things we've been discussing here. Is religion the only way to be moral? Doesn't seem to be, not to me or many of the people here on this thread.

The funny thing about diversity training it that it was recently proved to have almost the exact opposite effect that it is intended to have - bad news for the firms that specialize in it. But, apparently the training makes people over aware of things that offend or the need to tiptoe so as not to offend and it sets everybody up....

I'll try to find a link, I heard it on the radio the other day.

I wonder if it makes people stop relating to one another as humans and see others as racial classes instead.

Yes, it is a myth, but I do think our brains re capable of amazing things that we do not use them for. Much of this becomes evident when they do not function properly or when they are badly injured.....

Like the "paranormal stuff" we talk about on the pagan thread. Believe me I would rather that it did not happen to me. And I suspect if some one else told me it was happening to them I would have them thoroughly checked. It has happened to me most of my life, but only became a bigger issue after I had children.

I volunteered for a study at a major university and did have a CAT scan and an MRI and many many other tests to "prove" that I was not mentally ill. I have seen several psychiatrists who said I was as sane as most and saner than many.

I changed my medications, my diet and my geographic location. None of these stopped the phenomena and none of them explained how I knew things I was not supposed to know.

So what does it mean? Beats me. All I know is that there is a whole lot out there we DON'T know. And I am OK with that.

At one time I worked with Native American children in an after school program, and we depended on grants to fund our activities. Somehow, those in power decided that we were not "diverse" enough, and said that in order to continue receiving grants we had to recruit and accept children of other ethnic groups. We ended up trying to teach Ojibwe/Odawa/Potawatomie language and customs to kids from Guatemala etc because of this. The groups were originally meant to teach our Native kids pride in their own heritage so that they would have more self esteem and do better in school. Of course it didn't work, but do you think that the powers that be could understand that?

ok. I'm off topic yet again, sorry.

Oh, what didn't work was not giving the kids pride in themselves, it was trying to teach non-native kids native customs.
