You guys have given some great sites - thanks!!

I think this one was mentioned before, but to offer it again - religioustolerance.org

This site is one of the better for explanations because they consult with religious teachers and leaders of each religion to have them explain their belief system and dogma. As most systems, as they organize, create sects of disagreement, this helps avoid any one person claiming to know the totality of a religion.

BTW is anyone on here well versed in the Baghavad-Gita?? Can anyone give me the passage delineating Arjun's birth?? I think I am missing some piece of my understanding of the details. (I am weakest on my reading of the BG and the book of mormon. The BG is a hard slog to read through and the mormon book makes me laugh too much!

I have no knowledge of the Baghavad-Gita but I am impressed that you are reading it.

When I was 16, I read The Three Pillars Of Zen and really enjoyed the book, but I have no idea if I would like it now. Has anyone read this book? I saw it in my bookstore and was curious if it was as interesting as I remember it.

Can anyone explain what a meme is? I have come across that term on the internet in relationship to religion. What exactly-in simple terms-does this word mean?

A trend or idea that spreads quickly, usually by the internet.

Example: "lolspeak" or lolcats.

Thank you.

I had never read the term before and needed a simple explanation so that I could understand better what I was reading.

I have WHAT in my yard? :

You might try one of the online versions - http://www.bhagavad-gita.us/

Hey, don't let this thread die off. I want it to get to a hundred pages like the Pagan thread.

One of the things that I appreciate about this thread is all the intelligent conversation. It isn't post after post of how glad we are that we aren't religious. The responders on this thread put a lot of sustenance into their writings.

Most of us have had to stand up for our beliefs on multiple occasions. I remember a certain president flat out saying that atheists should not be considered citizens or patriots. There are actually still laws on the books in various areas stating that atheists may not hold political office. I personally have been fired because my boss learned I was an atheist. My life would probably have been much easier at particular points if I was willing to fake faith and attend church.

In NC there is a law on the books that state that atheists can't hold office. A councilman in Asheville was challanged by his opponent because he was an atheist. Luckily, the atheist won the right to retain his office.
