Hey All,
This is my first post. My wife, baby and I just moved out to Suffolk County, LI from Brooklyn because I started school here. We have always been interested in keeping a few laying hens and dwarf goats for personal consumption and now we finally have enough space to do it ( though we have to get final permission from the landlord since we are renting the house ). I've been trying to find out what breeds of both do well out here, especially with the winters and all, as well as provide enough eggs and milk for a small family. Anyone have suggestions or can point me in the direction of where to find them ? Would ducks or geese be a better option? I would like to avoid having to heat the coop if possible though if I have to I can keep them in my garage during really cold spells.
Thanks
Eric
