Anyone on Vancouver Island Canada???

Hi all, I am in Saanich, on the island.
It is great to see a few peeps from the island on here!
I am planning on getting some chicks (6) in the spring and starting the chicken adventure.
Anyone know of some good places to get (vaccinated) chicks on island?
I will be probably ordering form the mainland in the spring from 'the little red hatchery' if I can't find the breeds I am looking for (orpington, easter egger, barnevelder).
Good luck all with your chickies.

I get my chicks through the feed store that are vaccinated. Unfortunately it seems to limit the breeds you may want to get. I believe they come from the mainland. I haven't always had great luck with health issues. They use to order from Alberta and those chicks were good. My latest are columbia rock and they are about 25 weeks now, I'm having problems with soft shelled egg drop at night. I'm hoping the girls will straighten out. That's a first for me. Here is another option for you, they sell heritage breeds, you can get eggs or chicks. http://greendaleheritagefarm.com/our-breeds/. Hope this helps. I have also seen Easter eggers sold here on craigslist, they are not vaccinated nor sexed and pricey.

Thanks pwand,
I will check the site out.
I have a little time to sort it out, but I like to be on top of things, since life gets busy.
I have been considering different breeds, but keep coming back to these 3.
I have 2 lil kids (2 and 5) and I know that Orpingtons are great for families.
anyways, thanks again!

I am in Saanich. I have 7 chickens. Different breeds. 2 Ameraucanas, a barred rock, a bantam Wyandotte, And 3 bantam Old English Game hens. I love them all!

Hi everyone, I have a question for who lives on Vancouver Island. Can I process and sell my chickens on Vancouver Island without any permit or something like that? I am talking about 50-75 chickens. Thank you so much.

I don't know. Contact a local farm that does that, or farmers market. We must have some regulations here in BC. Check our agricultural government website.

I live in Cedar, just south of Nanaimo. good to hear from you.
I am hunting for a naked neck rooster for my daughters flock of mixed breeds. She has a couple of naked neck hens and was hoping to raise a few chicks in the spring. But we need the rooster.
