So, I just joined BYC last night after visiting a few times. Anyone else in Bracken County or thereabouts? We are starting small--just six pullets from Tractor Supply in the spring , but one white leghorn just started laying last week. She has had three eggs and two soft-shelled gooey messes so far. Is this normal to start with? She is about 4 months.

she is doing fine.mine just started to lay.eggs are on the small side.are your eggs small too.enjoy your ladies.i am new to chickens.i only have 5 and 1 rooster.i got the hens from tracter supply and rooster was a freebie from a friend.i got 3 red sex link,1 tetra tint,1white leghorn and a mystery rooster .I welcome you to BYC greetings from the state of virginia

Thank you for responding. My son and I just went out and checked this afternoon and today we had one small white egg and one small brown egg! I think I have one white leghorn, three golden comets, and two white plymouth rocks. When I picked out the pullets at Tractor Supply, I asked for three white and three brown. The three white chickens are three different sizes, and I'm still debating whether the smallest is a leghorn or a plymouth rock. The one that is laying I'm sure is a leghorn by the big floppy comb. I guess one of my golden comets is laying now too. My family is not quite sure what to make of all my enthusiasm over chickens!
