Anyone own any log/mountain type of houses?

I love the look of Log Homes but (living in the mtns) I have spoken to alot of people here that own them and the upkeep for the exterior can be costly. Apparantly, they need to be treated often. And then there is the termite, wood boring bees, etc. that love them too. Just check into that aspect of them before you make a decision.

I have always wanted a log home and will some day build one. I am jealous HarlansHollowFarms nice house. I love the wood inside.

Sorry the covered porch is not on yet.

I second, the checking out of the maintenance, I have three friends that have had them built, a lot of money, and they all say they would rather now after 5 to 10 years in them, have a 'normal' house.

We have cedar siding and, yes, the woodpeckers enjoy looking for bugs in the walls.

Also, with the prow front, well... I hope you like washing windows. Most of the people I know who own this type of house only clean the lower windows on a regular basis and it looks AWFUL from the inside when the sun shines!

After looking at a ton of plans we will probably go with regular siding on the outside instead of the log. My husband liked some of the houses with the log siding but it was mainly on the expensive houses. I don't mine cleaning the windows. Figured I would have to get a long pole or something to clean the upper windows. So far besides the siding we decided to probably go with the prow front on a square shaped house which would make the roof easier and probably cut costs down. We may add sides later on for extra bedrooms. The upstairs will be the master bedroom but he hasn't told me yet if he wants it closed off or open so we can look over the railing. I mentioned something about a half wall with shutters since I seen a picture online but he didn't like the look of it. Maybe we will leave it open at first till later on. We will probably only have one full bathroom. Haven't decided on the top floor or bottom yet. Might just have it on the bottom so if we have kids and add rooms then they can use it. Thinking of having an area above the utility room that could be made into a half bathroom so we could maybe install one easier. Not sure if that would work or not. I have the Sims 2 & 3 games so maybe I'll use them to design the house in to give me a clue of what it might look like and how to do the inside. I know some stuff will have to be adjusted to help support the house.

I found some good pictures and floor plans on http://www.linwoodhomes.com. Some of them even have finished pictures instead of just a drawing that also have some inside pictures as well.

We were looking at these three from that site that I might try to remake on my sims game to see how the layout looks. Definitely know that we would be changing the plans up though if we go with any of them. My husband likes the Avondale one really well but wants the top open instead of having it completely closed off. One of the bathrooms would be cut out also. Don't need two full bathrooms especially one that has a separate tub and shower. I do like the layout of the Kingsbury since it is simple and well open. I'll definitely be looking at other plans for more layouts.
