Anyone putting eggs in the bator tonight?

I just put 28 eggs into the bator tonight! This will be my second hatch, I only had 4 out of 18 hatch in my 1st batch - I'm keeping my fingers crossed and the bator closed this time!

I'm not sure about all of these eggs though - the gentleman I got them from had 1 hen sitting on a clutch and another he was hoping would sit and she hadn't yet, so he gave those to me with some others he collected today. Can't wait to see my babies!

Crossing my fingers for you to get a hen. my other (non-sitting) hen is so lonely now that her buddy is pre-occupied that when I get home, she follows me around the yard like a puppy dog.

My neighbor is a piece of crap for letting their dogs run loose. I don't have the heart to do anything to the dogs, but there are others near by that won't think twice of taking care of the problem. I was beyond angry when they started killing my birds (I saw them do it, so there is NO mistake).

Good luck to all. So far, my hen seems to be doing well. I'll eventually have to move her and the nest to a protected spot that will be safer for her and the chicks, but haven't decided how to try that yet.

I am putting eggs under my broody hen tomorrow. They arrived today so I am going to let them rest tonight and out them under her in the morning.

I bought and raised day old chicks last year, but this is my first attempt at hatching. I am so nervous of getting things wrong, I don't think I was this nervous when I was pregnant!

Good luck everyone, maybe we should start our own support group and we could update once we have candled etc?

BTW, my eggs are Buff Laced Polish frizzles - what's everyone else got?

I started out with 28 eggs on the 22nd, and now I'm down to 17

- All of the rest were bad, I had a feeling I was going to have a good bit that were bad anyway - since he couldn't tell me how long they had been in the nest. Anyway, candled the 17 and they all look great. This is my second hatch, the 1st hatch I only got 4 out of 18. I had some temp issues because my Bator was too accessable to children and we opened the Bator way too much - especially around hatch time. Also, I didn't monitor the humidity last time the way I should have. Lots of changes this time and I am hoping for a much better hatch rate!

I put 8 button quail eggs in today, 3 speckled sussex on wednesday, and 10 bobwhites last sunday and i stop turning them on the 9th and 10th

I'm with you. I'm incubating local mixed breed eggs just to get my mojo back. I just tried to incubate shipped eggs for the first time... every one appeared to be infertile.

I'm so mad, I wasted 18 days turning clear eggs because I was sure I was missing something. Nope. All clear.

Wish me better luck this time.

I hear you I got 8 shipped Jersey Giants and after 7 days I could only see 2 Air pockets but I left them in and candled after 10 days and all were growing except 1 so its all good except I ordered a dozen from a fellow BYC'r so oh well I am more excited about my new eggs i guess I jumped the gun a little bit.
