I am so excited! it's been 5 years since we had any goslings running around here. How old are they?Just wait until you hold them. All that downy softness is irresistible.
They are 2 months old. I don't think that I could go 5 years without geese. They are my favorites.I am so excited! it's been 5 years since we had any goslings running around here. How old are they?
I have a gander hatched by a Muscovy duck he just turned 5 in May. I have been searching forever for a mate for him and then my new friend from BYC is hatching Poms, well I couldn't be happier. They are 2 months old. I don't think that I could go 5 years without geese. They are my favorites.
My gander has done pretty well. He even helped me "herd" the little ones when they were out grazing tonight. He does get protective of his goose if the goslings get too close. She is sitting on eggs now, and she does not like the goslings at all. She is still hissing at them every time they are out running around.I have a gander hatched by a Muscovy duck he just turned 5 in May. Now I am wondering how Sammy my gander will take to this Pom goose since he has been papa goose to the ducklings hatching around here this spring. .
When is your gooses hatch day? please post pics I love Embdens and they are so cute when goslings. Sammy is very protective of 3 of the Muscovy ducks, the other 5 he doesn't like and will chase them away from his girls and ducklings lol They are so comical to watch. I just am hoping that I will be able to slip this gosling under my duck who is sitting on eggs that are not going to hatch, Hatch day is this thurs for her eggs and also for the goslings. So my plan is to try to put one over on Alice and give her this gosling to raise. My gander has done pretty well. He even helped me "herd" the little ones when they were out grazing tonight. They should have hatched yesterday, but I am not seeing any action, so I may not get any goslings. I have learned a lot this season, and will be better prepared next year. Good luck with Sammy and Alice. Unfortunately, there is no way to predict what will happen. There are always surprises with ducks and geese. They are not nearly as predictable as chickens. When is your gooses hatch day? please post pics I love Embdens and they are so cute when goslings. Thanks, and I hope you see goslings this week too. I have learned alot this year with my ducks and goose, only had 1 duckling last year and mama rejected him so he ended up being raised by my dh and me. He is just turned 1 and boy is he full of himself. Actually Sammy our Gander is afraid of him. Never thought I'd see that. But it's amazing the difference between the way a mama chicken raises her brood and a mama duck, my mama ducks have been very content to wander off and leave Sammy in charge of their off spring while a mama hen would never. And I never see Mama ducks cuddling with their ducklings during the day. only when time to go to bed does babies and mama actually cuddle. maybe it's just mine but we have had to be selective in letting our ducks multiply because of space and no where else to build, living on the side of a mountain doesn't give one alot of room for expansion So until last year it had been 5 years since we had had ducklings, the same year we got our goose egg. They should have hatched yesterday, but I am not seeing any action, so I may not get any goslings.
