It may have cost that much because some vets will charge an "exotics fee." Basically, anything besides a dog, cat, or horse.

That and repairing a broken leg on a two legged creature requires additional care and so forth. Not to mention the infection risk and circulation issues...yep big deal for a bird. Most vets would put them down rather than even try.

Glad she owns chickens...now she has risen a notch on my list. Good people own chickens.

I would have fixed that chicken for a whole lot less, and if they insisted upon having a professional, KFC does a pretty fair job of fixin' chicken.
