I Just set my Hovabator yesterday and will be setting the LG tomorrow, was just wondering if anyone else is or has set this week? Heres what i've got so far....

Hovabator:

19 EE/BA/? mix eggs from Julie (J)
7 Bantam Cochin/Serama Mix eggs (BX)
7 Brown mixed eggs from a funny old guy (OT)
6 Muscovy eggs from Delores, mixed colors (D)
11 Muscovy eggs from 'Nibbles', blk/blu (N)

I have decided to start keeping a 'Hatch Book' for when i incubate eggs. It will help me keep everything in order and record hatch rates, bator used, set/hatch dates, type of eggs, and who they came from. I think it will make the process A LOT easier, especially for future hatches. Will also help me remember where i got the cute chicks from

. (OT) stands for 'old timer', the guy i bought them from wil Hilarious! he actually answereds the door in his underwear with the biggest, most euphoric smile on his face...i was speechless, haha. He also showed me a chicken egg the size of a GOOSE EGG, i swear it could ahve been a triple yolker! he says that one hen lays them every-so-often.

Little Giant:

28 Blue Turken eggs from 'jmhappycowboy'
More of the same later in the week

I have yet to put this bunch down in the Hatch book since i didn't know how many eggs i would have. 28 is just the first half, and i will record the others when i get them And make any changes if i have to put some in the HB. I can't wait to hatch a whole bunch of little Naked Necks! Here's the first batch of eggs from James....

I'm setting eggs I'm getting from Lisa (dipsy doodle doo)
Blue/ black /splash Ameraucana eggs under a broody hen.
The eggs should be here in the morning, so I'll move my hen and set her late tomorrow night.
I love the blue/green eggs

16 Silky
Bator #2 just finished hatching eggs from Okiehen a 100% Hatch!! and reloading
9 Wellsummer
14 Blue Andalusians both of those are Okiehen eggs
10 Exchequer Leghorns
Bator #3 is in lockdown with EE's Frizzles and Buff Rocks as soon as that hatch finishes
24 Mille Fleur Leghorns
12 Heritage Delaware
I keep very detailed records of each hatch and each chick. My daughters science for fall so we are even investigating those wives tales, myths and not so scientific things and recording all the findings. Will patterns emerge among our flock? Only time will tell

I keep track of the basic stuff
Date set, breed where they came from($) or which chickens/roo, how many set, candled, numbers removed-why,dth date, actual hatch dates and which, incubator temps-mine keeps a record of the highs and lows as well as the humidity ranges, also overall condition of chick at hatch and if any die.Doing it off the top of my head so something may not be listed there
In general I want to be able to go back and look at any hatch or breed and see how previous ones went and where I may need to improve next time.
Now my daughter is using them as science this fall-homeschool kids get fun projects

so we also tracking some fun things. Color patterns at hatch, feather sexing-doesn't work with all breeds but a great learning tool, then feathering patterns. We band each chick so we can track it while it's here.

I plan to set about 50 chicken eggs and 70 quail eggs today. ranging from Marens and Light Brahmas to 3 types of quail.
