We have our first hatch of the season...out of the 29 eggs that made it to the hatcher, 20 chicks hatched. Still have one that just piped so might end up with 21.
2nd setting of eggs is in the hatcher now and due to hatch on Sunday. Potentially 20 more chicks if they all hatch.
It appears that I only have 5 out of the remaining 20 that are cockerels!!!
Here are the best examples from my most recent hatch. Note the difference in wing feathers. The pullet has fuller feathering on her wings, as well as a double layer of feathers between her "elbow" and shoulder, where the cockerel is slower to develop these feathers and only has one layer running from "elbow" to shoulder. EE/SLRW cockerel:
The second hatch is almost finished. out of 20 eggs, we have 14 hatched and 2 more pipped, so looks like we should end up with at least 16 out of 20..not too bad.
I just moved our 3rd batch to the hatcher, I have RIR, Pumpkin husley, Light sussex and Lavender/ Lav split to black eggs in there. I am hoping they all hatch!
I will be setting eggs again probably on Thursday.
