What a cutie!!! Congrats!!!
Yea i have th same problem once some hatch...Was thinking of a dot of food coloring on their fuz???What else wont they peck off? or peck at?Dont think it could hurt, not sure it will workWoke up this morning to one healthy fluffy chirping chick. 1 out of 4 is not bad for first hatch. It will be spoiled rotten. Will have to put something on his foot so I will be able to tell it apart from the maran eggs that are due to hatch tomorrow.
I would think they would be ok.102 isnt really good but some survive higher even sometimes. See waht happens.Whereare you on hatch day?!This coming week? So, before bed last night, incubator is reading spot on 99.5. I wake up this morning and it's dropped to 97 overnight! I fine tune it [as I've learned not to make any big adjustments....EVER in this bator] Go back to check an hour late and we're at 102!![]()
This happened with my last hatch too! My incubator is crap, I think.
It reads a perfect 99.5 until the day or so before lockdown and then all of a sudden it starts jumping and diving in big fluctuations. I'm mad because I have no idea how long it was that low or that high for![]()
But then I tell myself to calm down, broody hens don't carry around a thermometer or a hygrometer and they hatch chicks without assistance or drama all of the time...I've got to relax. Lol.
Congrats on your babys!!WOW 5 now.and hatch isnt until Tuesday or Wed is it?I have been taking mine out when they are totally dry and little fluff balls. I have been trying to leave at least one in the bator to call the rest out. I am up to 5 chicks. The first one has wryneck (what a learning experience) and we have been giving polyvisol drops and electrolytes. There seems to be a slight improvement from yesterday. #2,3 and 4 are all doing well. With #5 I had to help out because he/she had broken a hole open, about the size of a quarter, and was still upside down. I left it like that overnight and this morning the membrane was totally dried out and wrapped around part of it's head and body. It was still chirping and moving but sounded very tired. I know I shouldn't have helped but being the mom that I am I had to at least give it a fighting chance. Still have 7 left with no sign of hatching. I was originally supposed to go into lockdown tonight so we will see what develops over the next few days.
Mine was between 99.5 and 100 for a while. As my humidity was dropping and I haven't added water in a week, I added water last night at day 14. Well, I forgot to use warm water. After I added the cool water, the temp dropped to 97. I adjusted the temperature and it went up to 98.4 overnight. But I don't dare adjust it up more. I have two thermometers in the bator, and the other one reads 102. The one that now reads 102 used to read 101, and it sits about two inches above egg level. The one registering the lower temp is at egg level. My bator has a fan so there shouldn't be a temperature gradient like that, but I guess by adding cool/cold water, I caused the problem. I am wondering if I should replace the water to warm the bator back up.So, before bed last night, incubator is reading spot on 99.5. I wake up this morning and it's dropped to 97 overnight!
