Anyone setting eggs starting July 15 -July 22?

I'm officially in lockdown! I candled last night and things aren't looking so good though, if anything hatches out of this batch I'd be surprised.

I think I should have known better. The lady said the eggs "could be" up to 5 days old....but they were 12 for $20 including shipping, so I caved. On top of all of the strange fluctuations in temperature, and the fact that my incubator is a styrofoam death trap [as far as humidity and fluctuations go] I haven't been keeping as close of an eye on this batch as I did the last.

I saw 2 completely blacked out eggs [an EE and a FC] my Mille Fleur d'Uccle eggs (3 of which I saw chicks in) seem to have stopped growing, there is only a small mass of dark and I didn't see any movement.

I have a feeling that I'm going to be beyond disappointed with this hatch :/
So sorry to hear. I got suckered in too. The farmer only wanted $5/dozen and gave me 15 eggs. 3 were duds right off the bat. I kept them "just in case" and on day 14 there was nothing. the other 12 were all developed and I could see movement in all. Now that they have started hatching I think I had some older and newer eggs. The first 5 all hatched within a day of each other and the other 7 show no signs. I am thinking those 7 will hopefully hatch on Tuesday which is Day 21 for me. I worry because they all went into lockdown on Thursday instead of last night like they were supposed to. Even if the rest don't hatch I will be happy with what I got out of this hatch. It was my first attempt at hatching and I have learned a lot.

This morning I had four eggs and tonight I just threw out my last one. all of my eggs died

Good luck to everyone else who is still waiting for their hatch.
How disappointing. I know it's heartbreaking but consider it a learning experience. At least now you know what to do and not do with the next batch.

Welcome to our group. Great to have someone with some experience that can maybe help us with our hatches.

Oh, thanks for the nice welcome!

I'd be very happy to help in anyway whatsoever. I love talking about hatching, hatching, and waiting for things to hatch. Looks like I'm in fine company. :D

BTW, in case your wondering, I've been lurking and reading your thread all week.

I hope I'm welcome, I've been hatching eggs for about 28 years now.

Welcome! I am thrilled you are here! [I SUCK at hatching] and any and all insight would be greatly appreciated! I'm sure I will have a ton of questions for you in good time, even if I get no chicks out of this hatch, it's definitely not going to be my last

LMAO.

Oh that would be great! I have never hatched them before. I Must say I love this website its like family everyone is interested in what the other has to say. and I love that. My husband gets tired of listening to me talk about chickens 24/7 so its nice to be somewhere that everyone shares your interest.
My DH appreciate sme talking about it elsewhere too. LOL
My two peeps did not make any progress in over 12 hours. Had to help them out this morning. They were two big and could not move much in the egg. One had a growth on its belly. Hope it makes it. Its a fighter. He is moving around and chirping very loudly. Have one more peeping right now. 28 more to go.
Oh, I love hatch day! Good luck.
Just woke up and the third egg is hatched. The fourth, however, (the one that was peeping yesterday) still hasn't even pipped.
Yay for egg #3!

Oh, they may very well hatch. Usually like groups set togather hatch togather, but I've have to say that actual hatch day seems to coincide with how long it took the eggs to show spider veins. Especially with ducks and geese, I find that some just seem to get started later. For instance, in my last goose batch, of the 9 hatchers, 7 showed spider veins at day 5. Two didn't show veins until about 3 days later. These two also hatched 3 days after the rest of the group.

I'm happy you've had a hatch on your first try. That will help keep you going when you have those later disaster hatches, or death hatches. Even now, I manage to kill a batorfull for the most part now and then. My Dad died in may, and for 3 days, I barely messed with my bators. (3) The two with auto turners did ok, but the one that needed hand turning didin't get optimal care. It really effected every single group of eggs in there. I had about 4 different varieties, and pretty much all of them only hatched at 20%. They had been doing good, but it only takes a day or two of something off and its time to pay.

I think I have orders for the next 2 weeks, but I'd be happy to just send 4-6 to you after that. I also have some coturnix quail, I could give you the micro-quail-hatching-egg-assortment.

Chickens? No, probobly tomarrow. You can candle to check if they've pipped internally yet. (At night with a small multi-LED light you can put it over the airsac, and see their little beaks moving around, like a little shadow dancing in the empty space.) Once that happens, chicks are there the next day or two. If they come 1 day early, your temp is too hot. If they come a day late, your temp is too cool. If they come 2 days late, your lucky. If they come out sticky, you have humidity issues. IF they don't come out at all, its bad eggs or bad incubating.

Quail- 17 days - lockdown day 15 (like popcorn, everybody withen an hour or two almost always)
chckens - 21 - lockdown day 18 (they pip and then pop 12-24 hours later)
ducks, geese, turkey 28-31 (lock down day 25 OR with waterfowl when they pip internally lock everyone down (and they take forever to pip, and from pip to hatch is like 48 hours or more)

my PR Game hen is starting to go broody...she hissed at me like a dinasour and ruffled her feathers...she's been on her nest since 7 am (when I opened the coop)Her nest is under the carport..

So I have a genesis on the way and a BROODY............ I have got to get a better hatch rate next month... woooooooo hoooooooooo
Yes! Should have an AWESOME hatch rate now..!!
