I'm sure you'll have that 1 hatch today, and the other 49 will hatch tomorrow ;) Don't worry, I'm positive you'll have more than 2!!

It's just the beginning! Something tells me in a few hours you'll have something like 11 pips!

I should have know that this was going to happen!!! I leave the house for less than an hour and my chick hatches! 2 days early. Not sure the breed. He/she came out of a pale green egg.

Adorable.

Resting and quiet now, hopefully the rest of the chicks will soon follow!

WOW !!
So many posts since I have been out.....SO VERY HAPPY FOR ALL OF YOU THAT ARE PIPPING CHEEPING AND HATCHING.

unfortunately....nothing on my end. I am losing hope here but stranger things have happened. waiting stinks.

had a pip and 3 hour later a hatch but this chick is small. and has yellow yolk on his back..very loud but weak.. only one of 6 eggs left of 12 that has hatched. day 22 and other 5 are just being quiet.. hope this one makes it...

We had our first pip yesterday morning around 8:00 a.m. That egg hatched about 6:30 this morning.. And now we have 3 more hatched... so it takes quite a while.. 24 hours from first pip but oh so worth it!!! Patience is not one of my better qualities... but it worked... we have a total of 35 eggs to hatch. So we will see what happens. I set aside 4 eggs (before lockdown) I didn't think they were going to hatch but 1 of them pipped last night around 7:15 p.m. so you never know what is going to happen!!!

Loving this!!

I'm sorry but I have to say it...
If waiting "stinks" you've got a bad egg in there.

I hope it made you laugh...

Marty i put a hot steaming pan of water in closet asi transferred and tried to just crack bator open.Well at least the humidity is 76 now.
Also one eggs is really mottled Not sure if its the shell or rot peeping thru the shell.Didnt put it in lockdown though.Worried.Not sure what to do.
The mottled egg, if it doesn't have a very clear and visable air sac (w or w/o an internal pip) when its lock down time, probobly best to toss it. Usually when an egg dies after initially spidering up, it will sort of disintegrate on the insdie as the veins break down, and it forms a single dark mass usually. It sort of looks like a nebula when your candling it. A live babys will ALWAYS have VEINS VISABLE up until external pip. The blood from them is slowly drained into living chicks as they exert themselves physically for hatch, and their movement also causes the yolk to be drawn in. FYI, if you ever decide to help, messing with those veins can cause them to bleed to death, and getting them out before the yolks is ready is usually fatal as well. Its astounding how fragile even a tiny birds birth can be.
I went out and bought four of them on day 3...LOL. Glad I did because 3 of the 9 bulbs blew out in the first one I used. I found them at the Dollar store and the remaining three work great. I figured for a buck apiece I couldn't go wrong.I didn't want to invest in an expensive one because they always seem to disappear around my house.

Marty you have been a wealth of information. Thanks for all the fantastic tips and facts. I have written them all down in my "chicken" notebook to be able to use in the future.
Aw, your too kind. Glad to share what I know, it does me no good in my head unless I share it or use it.
YOu know all, i bought this Genesis....HATED to spend the money...SPENDTHRIFT for just CHICKENS !!!... but iLOVE this thing Boy it holds the temps so so well and the humidity pretty good too.

Marty maybe you can answer this....is it more important to keep temps stable during the 18 days than the last 3?
I ask because they are growing the first 18 days and just turning and pipping the last 3.
Also i would think the opposite is true for humidity more important the last 3 days.
Well i am just blabbering on ... to kill time until tomorrow my first hatch coming..(.Oh PLEASE BE COMING!!!!Dont be dead!)

(I am TRULY wearing this smiley out)
I tried to get one this spring, but they were backordered for 3 weeks and I just went and got a fan LG. I still want a geneis. I think I'll get me one for christmas!

Its important the entire time. Sorry. And humidity is also equally important the entire time. IF you let it stay dry, they loose too much moisture and its a tough hatch. IF its too humid, they lose too little, and no room to hatch. If lockdown is too low, they are gonna shrink wrap and die. If its too humid (like 80 or more) they may get water in the air sac if it follows a humid incubation, and drown when they pip internally. ITs all very important, Im afraid.
To keep myself from opening the bator three times a day, I baked bread from scratch today. I tried a new recipe - herbed French bread. The onion and garlic loaves came out great. I guess incubating eggs is helping me become a better baker.
