I HEARD a cheep last night, which you guys said means internal pip, so how long after an internal pip is made is a actual pip made??
Does it take a long time? I hope so, because if it only takes a couple hours that means the one I heard is surely dead by now.

How long does it take?? Anyone know??

The 9th one to hatch is just as exciting as the first!!! It truly is amazing. So happy for you.:ya

It can be a day or more. Remember, do no panic. Hatchlings rest and sleep, sometimes for several hours. Its a proces of blood being absorbed, yolks being absorbed, and work on the shell being done. It all has to arrive at the same time, and the little ones know when to work, and when not too. I would give it 24 hours before I worry. Its true it may die, but more likely an embryo making it to internal pip will externally pip soon. If your very worried, a tiny little hole, just to let in fresh air (think 2-3mm whole NOT 1/4 inch hole) may be made if its been several hours since internla pip. Varify internal pip with by candling in a very dark place. It will look like a little tall shodow in the air sac. Sometimes moving, sometimes still (they do rest, its true) but if its internally pipped, well, so far so good. Give it 24 hours, IMO.

4 out of 12 ain't bad....I guess.

4th chick just hatched. I'm going to candle the ones left when I put the 2 others into the tub and under the heat lamp.

The last chick is pretty. Blonde on the belly, black stripe down the back. I'm going to call her "skunk"

Morning' everyone!

Hope everybody had a successful night of chicks!

leelak, so glad you've got a chick!

Here's a picture of the unknown baby. Sorry the pics aren't the greatest...any ideas of what he is?

Looks like a genuine cutie too me

, but I don't know what the breed is. Can you remind me what they are supposed to be? If its a breed that has multiple color variations, its not unheard of too throw a different color. For instance, I have Ancona ducks, which are usually black. However, I've got a pale Liliac one too. In fact, they are so rare that I'm trying to find a male for her.

well, the little chick died this morning and the last remaining egg has zipped but is just hanging out in his shell. looks very big.... so possibly 2 of 12 hatches...I do have higher hopes for the 40 eggs in the bator now , some will go on lockdown the 15th... They are ameraucanas and they are really moving in the egg when I candled them the other day... Everyone keep posting and I will keep trying....

Good luck with the bigger batch. At least with lots of eggs, the temps will stay more stable, and its easier to control humidiy, since there is less space to fill with it.

Quote: Brookhavens I have one that is that way. It didn't absorb the yolk and now it has a hanging tumor on its belly. Tried to keep it moist but it has dried anyway. Not sure if it will make it but it is walking around and chirping like the others. It is 3 days old.

The little fella didn't make it. Was hoping it would.
