Wow...131 post....that's bout 13 pages of readin...lol

Ok here's the UPDATE!!!!!!!!

Have 8 hatchlings, 6 girls & 2 Roo's!!...& 3 more to go!!
Couldn't tell by the colorin anymore, as 1 through me for a loop!!
But checked the wings "primary & covert" feathers!

The previous owner (sweetest old Lady EVER!!) of my Big Roo "Jacob"...
Informed me that he is an Araucana!! (was wondering how come he had a triple comb) :D
She has papers & records of all her chickens.
And will send the ones of "Jacob" to me...YAY!!
Jacob is 5 years old & was gettin mean to his sons (Roo's)
Her late husband use to show him & others (but he passed away & she's not able to get out much)
Since I wanted a full grown rooster & not Roo-chick...we trade a puppy (dashund/chihuahua mix) for him!

It's the BEST deal Ever!!!!....she is thrilled with lil "Adorah" .....& (Jacob) He is soooo freakin sexy...no wander my girls luved him from day one!!

Hope Every1 got sum GREAT pippin/hatching!!
Now to get sum readin done!!!...hehe!!

I dont want to count my chickens HAHA ...but i have 2 pips!!One is the rockin guy from last night .They arent really pipped yet but the shell is trying to crack.Another i thought was but he just has shell from Midnight on his shell ITHINK.Oh my fingers are so crossed!!
I cant thi k what else i can do to get a better hatch is the thing.Shipoped eggs..but others get more than 1baby!!
Around here not that many ppl seem to have chickens or nobody adverstises hatching eggs or certain breeds if they do(2 ppl i saw) .I put an ad on Craigs to see if i can locate someone i can pickup from . The closest i found to buy 12 Lo eggs is almost 5 hours away one way!. GEEZ. and it was the only one with a pure BREED not just mixed."free range eggs"
Wel maybe i'll get lucky but last night i candled my other LO eggs and doesnt look good at all. All black no air cell (whats that?) or af ew looked like they might not have fertilized.Butthe savign graceMAYBE is the Silver Laced Brahmsa. I see lots of activinty inthem and veins too.DAy 10.Other Los go to lockdown Sat.
So happy for you. Now your little one will have playmates.

I've got 11 eggs waiting to pip on Thursday.
And this morning when I checked them, I had one with a star crack already!
Yippee!!
:woot
I was so worried because this last batch had really small (like the size of day 7) air cells on day 16,
and now we are on day 19 and I candled, and they are MUCH improved!!
SO Happy!!
I thought I was going to have a pile of drowned chicks.  :hit

But everyone is active and happy and I think it might actually be time to add a wet sponge after trying desperately to dry everyone out over the last 3 days.

Wish me luck on this next batch!
:celebrate

:yiipchick: woohoo!!

I have not tried the carton yet... but heard a lot of people like it.  It all depends on what your situation will allow and what you're trying to achieve.  You could always split the difference and cut your egg cartons way down and lay the eggs horizontal in them.  Making sure that the air cell end was facing out, at a slight angle up, just like when you're incubating them.  It makes sense to have them in as natural a position as possible --like a hen would have them in the nest.  The hen doesn't all of a sudden drastically change the position of the eggs.  But again, I have not tried hatching upright in a carton-- so I'm just chatting here.
It's all a learning experience.  You are gonna have to try it both ways and see what works best for you.
:pop
Good Luck!

I incubated my eggs in paper egg carton I got from TSC for $.49 each....cut the top completely off, cut the bottom (flat part) out & trimmed the lil "cones" down....they sell the trays, but im cheap!!...teehee!!

I laid them down in coffee filters to hatch....it worked out Great & easy clean-up!!

They can hatch in the cartons r trays....but from what I heard...the level has to b low enough to zip...& sum chicks has gotten scratched!

But good luck in ur decision!!!....& much blessings!!!

Im in Missouri and down near the Ozark foot hills too .You'd think a lots of ppl had some but i havent found them but havent looked too hard only on Craigs and Ebay classified.I am not from here so dotn have a large network of ppl around to ask.Must not be too many as the farm center, pets stores and feed store order them many from Cackle which is 3 1/2 hours away.
.There is an animal/bird meet at the farm center every 3rd Sat.i have yet to remember to go.Maybe i would find ppl there. Online or newspaper you dont see a thing.
I actually have 12 ppl want to buy LO's from ME and i cant get a good hatch!! CRA---ZY!!

Well, I'm done with this hatch. Of about 36 eggs that we started out with we cracked four due to some problems with the motor for the egg turner....down to 32. Of those 32, 4 eggs were bad when candled on day 18, down to 28 for lockdown. 22/28 hatched successfully, I started opening the incubator and trying to help chicks I thought needed help which would account for the six that didn't hatch. One of the chicks that hatched died yesterday so we're down to 21.
Lessons learned...
I will try to start incubation of all eggs on same day, no staggered hatching
I will follow the advice on another thread and will not open up the incubator after lockdown until day 23, no matter what...
Dry hatch method worked wonderfully for me on my first hatch!! ill definitely do it again!! I maintained the humidity in my basement below 50% using a room dehumidifier
Have to fix the egg turner, I want to disturb the eggs as little as possible for the next hatch. I will candle twice, on day 18 and day 10.
Will resist the urge to help, it hurt more than it helped. I feel I helped one or two chicks but lost another 3 or 4 because of it.
And last but not least I learned that hatching your own is an amazing experience and is very addictive... To the person that mentioned eBay, thanks... I've got 24+ copper Maran eggs coming to me next week and may pull the trigger on another 10+ light Sussex... Will be joining the other thread for that hatch along!!!!
Thanks to all who have provided advice and support, this hatch along set the bar high!!!!

Wow!!!! :yiipchick:

That's an Amazin Hatch Precentage!!!

And wonderful lessons learned too!!

Good Luck with ur next batch!!!!!
