Anyone setting eggs starting July 15 -July 22?

I am coming in way late on this thread but I set my eggs on July 18th. I bought a dozen Barred Rock eggs from a local farmer and he gave me 15. This is my first attempt at hatching eggs ( I have raised chickens from chicks before) and I am very excited. I candled them on the 7th day and thought I only had 6 good ones and when I candled last night 12 of the15 had moving chicks in them. The other 3 were totally clear so I tossed them. I know a lot can change between now and next Tuesday but I am keeping my fingers crossed that the number stays high. I am so looking forward to having chickens again and can't wait for my little fuzzballs to arrive.

I am on evening of day 21 and no hatching yet..keep looking in every few hours.. last hatch came at day 22 so maybe tomorrow something will happen...wish i had xray eyes so I could see whatis going on.. And the chicks that went outside the other day are doing fine. let them out of their coop today to run around and they were chest bumping each other. Also what is the strange behavior they do where suddenly one will lay on his side and out a wing out and then the rest will do it? I call it " chicken down."

I just did my day 14 candling and I kept 15/18. I removed one of my X's and 2 of the swedish flower hens that were all 3 developed quitters. All the rest look good, but I'd like to see better sized air cells. I have kept the humidity in the bator at 23-28% the whole time, but my cells are still on the smaller side. I think I will let this group hatch upright in modified egg cartons. Hopefully if any of them do have too much moisture that will help keep it out of their mouths. I hatched my last 3 times like that with great results.

BTW...for the person wanting to lower their humidity, cut the bottom off a pill bottle and twist it through he side of your bator across from the fan. When you want the humidity lower just take the lid off the pill jar, and to raise the humidity close it back up. I used the big plastic spice jars from dollar store because the lids just snap open and shut. I have one right under my fan and one across from it. You may have to increase the setting on your thermostat if you use a home made like me, but the more airflow you get going through the bator the lower your humidity will get.

;)

Oh yea... I forgot to chime in on hatch day. I have hatched tiny banty eggs all the way up to big 'ol turkey eggs, and they've always hatched early. This time I'm running lower temps so we'll see Tuesday...or Wednesday...or Thursday! :D

Ok, I candled again and I managed to get to all the eggs this time! Out of eight eggs I only had one clear. :D. All four Silkie eggs are going strong, one was jumping around like crazy! Guess the little guy objected to being moved. I was amazed that Summer didn't peck me though. Talk about puffing up though. Hehehe...

HI
I posted a little back that I am hatching my second hatch but only three eggs from a hen I recently lost. I believe they are due to hatch Sun/Mon. I wanted to know how to cut the egg cartons for that type of hatch. My first hatch the eggs got so knocked around I would like to try this. Dont the chicks know over the cartons when they come out of the egg??
Last of my Blue Lace Red Wyandottes so I really hope these hatch. By the way...I keep getting different info., if I set on the 16th - at 12:15am, then when should I go into lockdown. My first hatch was a bit weird so ? Any help would be appreciated. THANKS!
