that duck!

I will take pictures shortly.
I think our total tally will be 16. The recovery ward in the incubator is doing fine but think I'll leave them there until tonight.

Ok, here they are - everybody except the 4 in the incubator still hatching.

Might need some help identifying some of the colors:

Black Copper Maran, Blue Laced Red Wyandotte (anyone confirm that?) and Red Laced White Cornish

Cochins - I think the one on the right is a blue. Could the other two be splash - ????

The Orpingtons: A black and two blues - ??? And...I dunno
Any thoughts? The black one with a brown face

I don't think its an Orpington at all looks totally different but it came out of an egg labelled ORP.

And finally, the two Ameraucana/Australorp crosses from my own eggs...very cute. Does that make them Easter Eggers?

I gave up on my broody's eggs.

I checked and none of them had developed. All that time she spent being a diligent mommy for nothing.

I feel bad for her.

Well, at least now I've had my first broody so I will recognize it when it happens again. And, I know I CAN survive waiting the 21 days. lol

Congrats on everyone else's successes, and condolences for the losses.

Oh and Happy Easter Bok Bok!

Cute pics everyone!!!

Loopy, yes, that looks like my BLRW's. I hatched 4 in Feb and lost 2 and hatched 2 more with this batch. On your cochins, that lighter color one I would say would be possibly splash or blue, the other two are probably black. We have a lot of those!!!

I think we are officially done with 16 chicks. We have no more pips or action left at last check. I will leave them in there for another day just in case though.

JJ: I think I'd've popped out to TSC or somewhere and got some day old chicks and slipped them under your broody. Always seems unfair on them to have wasted their time..
Sorry though. Better luck next time.

Tamara: good...I LOVE LOVE LOVE BLRWs. One of the shrink wrapped ones was also a BLRW. Its out, almost dry and doing fine, so now I have 2

Thanks on the cochins. The pale one is very pale, so hoping blue for that. The other 2 can be whatever they like - I just want variety

Any ideas on the mystery pretending-to-be-an-orpington chick? I have no clue what it is - doesn't look like any of the others.

I thought we were all done then found another egg with a pip...again shrink wrapped. Sigh.
I'm less confident about this one but easing it out slowly. Its the last one though. Everything else has gone. I am now an expert of releasing stuck chicks.

If this last one makes it we will have 17!!!
And 8 of them were shrink wrapped and had help out. But they are thriving.

Next time I'm just going to sit back and watch the show.
And I think I will hatch at 75% in future. 80+ for the ducks maybe. The 65% just didn't work. I calibrated the hygrometer, but I wonder if it was different humidity in different parts of the incubator

Where do you put yours?

Anyway...16 maybe 17 chicks...I consider that a good outcome in the end

Well congats on all the chicks everyone.
my #9 is looking good, I had to help it out. it was shrink wraped.
My store boughts were not doing anything, today is there 21st day. and this morning my DS noticed a pip, at at 10am it hatched as we had to leave for church. I'll post pics when I get home. it is yellow, the guy said the eggs were from red rocks ???? the eggs are a darker brown the roos could be white rock?? what with the yellow chick. we also have another pip when we left this afternoon, so maybe when we get home well have another baby.

chick count 10, 1 pip

Loopy I'll use coffee filters next time too but i'm going to use less of them. a few here and there, otherwise it got crowded. I found myself having to remove the filters as they hatched cause they wanted to snuggle.

Stumble.......I think you have a dark blue silkie. Hard to tell in the light of the pic, but it doesn't look black. Adorable duckling.

Loopy.....First pic does look like a BLRW. 2nd pic, 2 blues and either a dark blue or black in the back. 3rd pic looks like a dark blue orp, a GLW, and 2 splashes. Your splashes have a lot of blue on them, so I suppose they could end up light blue. Love those puffy cheeks on the last one.

Here's a close up of my splash orp for you to compare to yours. Maybe it's just the pic that makes them look more blue?

Congrats to everyone still hatching!

I use coffee filters. Works nicely, but only 1 and set egg in. Though the eggs on the way are going to fill the bator, Im not sure how Im going to do it. Maybe flatten them and cover floor.

Anyone got more eggs to set? I have some from SoarkingHawkFarms. Tester eggs....started out to be 12, then she had a guy that couldnt pay, so now its 30 eggs. Should be here Tues. And I am picking up 12 light green eggs from the guy I got the hovabator from!! Bator is going to be full for sure!!! Anyone else going to hatch with me??
I must say, it was much fun doing a hatch along!!

Loopy, since my 1st 2 unsuccessful hatches, Ive had my humidity up around 75% during lockdown and when pipping starts, I get it closer to 80%.
My 1st 2 hatches I did with lower humid, even during bation..dry method, didnt work well for me.
Actually now, thinking back to when I opened the eggs, the chicks were all dried out and shrink wrapped. I learned alot from it, but at the expense of the babies.

I helped 1 out of hatch 3 and 1 out of hatch 4. They didnt look good when they hatched and I figured they wouldnt make it, but they are all well now.
