Ok, I never posted pics of the 2 chicks that I woke up to the next day. Here they are.

WHOO HOO on all the new chickies!!!

Hey that reminds me, anyone else have more than one coop? Do they all go home at night, to the home their supposed to go to, or do they just go to any home? Like if I had a roo coop and a hen coop and they all just free ranged it all day, would the hens go to the roo coop for the night and visaversa?

We have 4 coops, and yes, they do all go home at night. Our second coop was built as a rooster coop, but it didn't go very well. We had ordered from a hatchery and we got one roo in our st. run bantam order and one of our barred rock ladies turned out to be a roo. We figure we'd build a small coop for them since they were "essentially" brothers, but they fought horribly. I think it's better if they each have a few ladies. 3 of our coops are empty of chickens right now, waiting for all the chicks to grow up! One is houseing our broody duck and her drake. Once they hatch, they will be moved to a new duck run/house.

So I am happy to join those hatching later in the month! Our Muscovy is on her nest and we are thinking they will hatch first week in May.

I ALMOST ordered eggs last night, but refrained. I am hoping to get more Lavender Cochin Bantam eggs from the seller I ordered the ones I got for this hatch, but he was going to let me know when they were available since he had several orders already lined up that he had to fill. I want to get some Golden Cuckoo Maran eggs and some true Ameraucana eggs maybe to go in with them. But I am waiting to hear from him so I can get them all to come at the same time.

Kristie those are too cute!

Tamara, but do they go to the RIGHT coop? can I say "this is your coop and this is your coop"? will they listen or will they just go to any coop. Right now all of our chickens free roam all day and go "home" at dusk, but if divided roo/hens will they go to the right coop or will I have 20 birds in one coop and 2 in the other?

That's what I wanna know. as far as being with ladies, they'll get that perk during the day as I want to free roam them all together during the day just different coops at night. :hmm

gotta an off the topic question, What kind of feeders do you guys/gals use for ur older (5 months +) chickens? and does it keep feed off the floor? I'm having a terible problem with feed on the coop floor!

Love the pics!!! Can't wait to hatch some of our ducklings! We've never had them before!

Yes, but you kind of have to train them for a week or two. We've mixed them up a few times, and when we switch who goes in what coop, we leave them cooped up for a few days so they get to know their new home. Then, sometimes when they first free range, they will go in the wrong coop, but we go in after they have rooseted, and move them back to the coop we want them in. After a week or two, they get it down.
