Anyone setting eggs tomorrow (13th March, EDD Apr 3rd)

Oh no!
Now I've read about the wax and nail varnish I feel even worse!

Ok, I now promise no fiddling from now until day 10, no peeking, no candling. Just going to monitor humidity and check temperature. No egg fondling!

Oh, I envy your house! I bet it's awesome!

I t would be awesome if the people who have owned it for the past 8 or so years had actually taken care of it. I have been taking bag and bags of garbage out of here for months. Contractor bags! Big huge bags of junk!

The basement was used as the "winter kitchen" so it has a HUMONGO walk in fire place. The "summer kitchen" is in a smaller building next door with a giant, table sized wood stove in it.

The worst part is the wiring. There is not enough circuits in the house. You can't run the microwave at the same time as the coffee maker.

Oh and I can't use my brand new stove I bought last month cause the land lord won't hire a REAL electrician. He got some relative of a relative who owed him money to come in here and put int eh outlet. It's supposed to be a 220, but it blows if we try to turn it on.

Me neither...not sure I could stand doing duck eggs at a week longer...21 days is hard enough!

We candled last night on day 6, and had 13 questionable eggs out of 52, which I was pretty happy with. I've left them all in just in case, and will pull out the no-shows next time around.

So far we have:
6/7 of our own black banty cochins
1/2 partridge bantam cochins (LMEggs)
14/16 BBS bantam cochins (LMEggs)
4/12 lavender bantam cochins (JamesA)
4/4 LF black cochins (JamesA)
6/7 BLRW (okiehen)
4/4 Blue Andalusian (okiehen)

How's everyone else doing? Anyone else candle recently???

Hi Y'all

I candled my 8 eggs today (7 silkies and one mutt) and all looked good except for one silkie.
It had a ruptured air cell from shipping but I gave it a chance anyways.

Hi,

Ive have 5 random breed eggs in and with the exception of the light green one that I cant see in, all the others are moving around like crazy!! Yay!

Really hoping this hatch goes well. I got none in my 1st hatch, and I just got 1 (out of 10 that made it to lockdown) bantam cochin hatch this morning!

I was really getting frustrated with this whole incubating/hatching thing.

I candled a few at random last night and think I saw blood vessels in the only 2 white eggs I have. The rest I just couldn't see a thing.
So I bought a new flashlight. 110 lumens - will that be better do you think?

Will have a look tonight (day 7 today).

I know it is killing all you "newbies" to not check them constantly, but you're gonna have much lower hatches if you keep opening up the incubators to "check". You're also making your incubators work so much harder to get back up to temp and humidity. You are not gonna get as much life out of it making it work harder unnecessarily.

It's far better to just leave them alone until day 10. And then don't touch them again til day 18. Besides, in colored and brown eggs it's much easier to see what is happening if you wait a bit longer to candle. Day 7 is fine for white eggs.
