Anyone setting eggs tomorrow (13th March, EDD Apr 3rd)

ChickFilA thats how I felt yesterday, now I have 2 pips and cheeping...don't get disheartened! I set my eggs on the 13th too, but very early morning - you're at least 15-18 hours behind me on that basis...

I'm glad I set so many eggs though because the rate of loss was pretty high and could still lose more. If I'd only set 6 eggs I'd be done to like 3 or something

Also glad I set so any different breeds - hoping that the chicks will all look different

I just hatched 5 Blue/Splash Orps. They took forever to come out! Gumpsgirl (who I got the eggs from) said they are lazy hatchers and typically come late.

Though reports are mixed, I've heard some say that bantams sometimes hatch ahead of standards.

As for me, I have over 30. A couple had been in there about 36 hours, so I gritted my teeth, opened the incubator and scooted out as many as I could as fast as possible. The temp and humidity have recovered nicely though. I see some feathered feet, and 2 turkens. Some of the eggs were from a lady who has a mix of Ameraucana and Wyandottes, so a scant chance of a laced EE from those. Most look black, but there is one with a pretty brown face and dark olive legs ... Please be a hen, little chick! I have pics but my stupid computer is shot. I am typing this on an iPod! Obsessed, who me?

Congrats to everyone getting pips and chicks! To those who are having trouble -don't lose heart yet!

New2chooks- that is good news. I have 6 in there. 4 are a very dark almost purpley shell and 2 are a very light shell. I know the BCM are very hard to hatch and I didn't know if that was because of the dark dark shells. So I will just keep my fingers crossed. I'll will post some pics soon

Congrats on all the new chicks and activity!!!

We woke up to 5 pips, and pip #2 has very slowly started zipping. Poor little #1 chicky is still all by himself and not too happy about it.

We are having a huge storm blow in with wind gusts expected in the 50-60 mile an hr range. The winds weren't supposed to hit until this afternoon but they are already starting.

If I'm not posting this is why. Any idea's on how to keep the baby chicks warm if I don't have power? I'm thinking I'll for sure have to bring them upstairs as the basement is a LOT colder down there than up here. I'm cranking the heat up here already. I figure I'll have to put them in my room as we have a gas fireplace. That will make for some nice odors.

and there is water sitting under my brooder box, thankfully we put it up on blocks. here i go to start cleaning out the basement, wish me luck!

Banty's vs Standards...I do tend to think the banty's come first. At least that's what is happening in this hatch so far. Our first chick is a banty and 4 out of the other 5 pips we have are in banty eggs. Pip #5 is in a BLRW egg and I am THRILLED!!! We hatched 2 of these out in Feb and I soooo wanted more than 2 plus these are from a different line which will be good for breeding.
