Now heres the question, do you see mixes? Don't look at the store boughts. My hens are EE and brahma, my roos are EE, brahma and silkie. I think I see EE is my brahma and I think brahma in my EE

I don't see any silkie in any of them cept maybe that itty bitty brahma whos head is not totaly fluffed. (from the top s/he is the 2nd one.) no none have 5 toes or dark skin, hmmm one may have darker legs I'll have to go look.

The EE whos at the top of the pic, his ?? name is Butterscotch, his mamas name is Carmel.

all said and done my hatch rates are.......
out of my hens eggs we got a 75% hatch rate
and the store boughts were a whopping 50% hatch rate

I think that was really goo for my first time, right?
Now for my silkies....... Hope that goes as well, DH's not hopeing so.

Raimnel: I thought you might like to see my Light BrahmaXAmeraucana from last year. Her name is Baby and I think she turned out really pretty. The first one is a pic of her real young last summer and the second is a mature girl this winter.

OK so now on sexing these little cuties. I remember reading somehwere last year that roos feather out slower. Does anyone know if this is true? My babies are getting quite a bit of wing feathers, but I have one liitle chick in the bunch that has barely any. And my Orpington has none yet. My silkies are even getting wing feathers. What do you guys think?

OMWord christytrav, she is a beauty! she looks like my carmel (EE) but with that brahma twist! one of the eggs I just hatched were from my carmel and it is sooooo cute that when I put my silkie eggs in i'm putting another one of carmels eggs in.. shhhh don't tell my DH!

oh and wing tip sexing............ can only, I believe, be done with in the first few days. The hens have 2 different length wing tips and the roos 2 sets are the same length. I did see some differences in the wing tips and jotted some guesses down as to what I thought who was, but we'll see in a few weeks if I were right. If my guesses are right I have 6 roos, 6 hens and 2 IDK's.... so time will tell. And thanks again for the pic

Raimnel......What color of brahma's do you have? Light, dark?

I think they look like crosses. Very adorable crosses. I love the fluffy little bodies with the poofy cheeks on the EE ones.

I have found myself wondering what chicks would look like from my light brahma hen mated with my welsummer rooster.
