Anyone Setting Eggs Tonight 3/31/2011 - Come join me if you like!

I think a new camera is in the near future for me as well. I got my Brinsea and a new 4x6 chicken coop so my husband is buying a used car so It will have to wait a month or so. BestBuy has a camera thats NOT a SLR but it is almost as good as one and I think thats what I am going to get.

Lock down is right around the corner, can you believe it!?!? Lock down is Tuesday for me.

Do you line the bottom of your bator with something before placing the eggs down? I use one of those rubbery shelf liners and will use it again for this hatch and for at least a week before switching the chicks over to the poultry pad I use.

Does anyone use the hatch in a egg carton?? How does that work?? Is there a possibility of overheating the egg while it's sitting up in the cup?

If I had a shed I would likely do the same thing but we have no Sheds here

......And my husband has built all of our rabbit hutches so this was a chance for him to get a break. Plus we just built fencing on almost 1 acre from scratch. And when I saw from scratch I mean we actually used a sawmill to make all of our posts and fence boards. We are generall thrifty but I guess your right, I am in shopping kind of mood! Not to mention I just had a anniversary and my birthday is i a few weeks as well. My friend has a shed for her chickens and its really nice set up. But a coop is cheaper then a shed.

The shed has been sitting around for 1.5 years in a pile, my husband finally put it up in the fall/winter and found out that a lot of it isn't gonna be "stable" enough for what he needs to put in it, but he can fix it "cheap" to make it into my coop.....and then he will build a brand new shed for himself, and let me tell ya, I am not complaining one bit

Could you possibly get a pic of the inside of her coop so we can get some ideas of what to do please?

I so wanted to get a shed and fix it up as a coop but hubby thinks it will draw too much attention from the neighbors seeing as we're in the city part of Missouri...that and he feels the larger the space i get for a coop, the more chickens i'm going to want to have....He knows me so well!

I have to settle on upgrading my dog kennel and X-Large Igloo dog house...but that's okay, as long as my girls have room, grass and some dirt to scratch and bathe in, that's all that matters.

Right now I just have two girls - a RIR and a black australorp - and they absolutely were beside themselves when the weather had warmed up enough for a little rain and all these little worms were coming to the surface - they had a feast, it was so funny seeing them gobble up as many as they could pop in their mouths...then my husband who said the chickens are my business, started digging some up for them...i'm so glad the weather has warmed up so nicely...i know the girls were tired of being cooped up in that dog house during the cold weather.

I got an easter egger, black jersey giant and a white leghorn coming from "chickensforbackyards.com" next month - the site read Ameracauna but I've learned from BYC posts that those are actually easter eggers...not sure why they label them Ameracauna then...

I got 3 red sex link chicks and 1 BO - all 2 1/2 weeks old.

Anyone else have baby chicks in brooders while awaiting this hatch? How soon do you think you can mix different age chicks together?

Might have some Friday, we shall see if I can pre-pay for them tomorrow and pick up on Saturday (they are getting them at my local feed store)
