I have 4, 1 month olds in a small rabbit cage in the house and they are getting big fast. I have to figure something else for them soon. When we bought our house it had a cool 8x8 shed with sliding plexy glass windows my daughters were using as a fast food play house. When we got the chickens my husband made nesting boxes for it, cut a hole in the door and put chicken wire around it. Now it is for the cats so the dogs can't get to them and they can eat in peace. We might just have to kick the cats out and let the baby chicks go in there. I dunno. We'll see.

Today is only day 19 and the first day of lockdown and........I have a PIP and I saw two eggs moving!!!!! and no I did not bump the bator!! I am soooooooooo excited. One that is moving is an Americauna egg but the roos are BO and RIR so it will be a mix. The other is brown and I am not sure which hen layed it. Can't wait.

I am so excited for you!!!! Will you be staying home the next 3 days to watch their every movement? Thats my plan. lol.ant wait until lock down.

Ok friends, I have some questions for those who have hatched before....

When I just candled, it looks as though some of the veins are moving when the chick moves, is this normal?

It also looks like some of them are upside down (head down towards pointy end), is this ok?

Thanks in advance

Yes it is normal for the veins to move when the chick moves. Your chick will get into the right position when its ready to hatch.

Update - I now have 7 eggs moving, 1 with a pip and 7 or 8 quail eggs moving......YAY! I will definitely not be able to leave the house for awhile and will probably not even make the biscuits for dinner that I was going to cause I am finding my face glued to the bator windows LOL

here we go - now the fun really starts!!!!!

Just candled, all 15 still kicking! One of the silkies had a big dark blotch that seems weird, but we saw movement so who knows.

Lockdown is Sunday evening for us. That means hatching on Tues./Wed., the same day(s) our shipped chicks are scheduled to arrive. Guess I'd better set up brooders this weekend!
