You also have more of a connection to the chicken even as they grow compared to ones you buy at tsc or another feed store. I can honestly say I only have two chickens that I feel are truly pets that want to see me as well that I bought from tsc. A dutch bantam (she even knows her name) and one of our latest chicks, a young dark brahma that out of the whole 9 is the only one that comes up to me and loves to be held and pet....though I keep telling her that that's going to be kind of hard when she's a full grow brahma hen lol but I feel closer, pet wise, to the ones I've hatched.
