Anyone Setting Eggs Tonight 3/31/2011 - Come join me if you like!

artathart,
Congrats!!!! I am fighting the urge to candle, now day 4 and I really want to, but my son has a b-ball game tonight and that will keep me out of the house. So I should be able to make to at least day 5. Want to wait till day 10, but pretty sure I will have a breakdown on day 7....

Where did ya'll get the led flashlights?

I got one at Home Depot, but then was reminded I had a "First Light" brand and it just needed batteries, and WOW, what a difference that First Light made over the Home Depot one, but unfortunately they are really expensive

Oops, just checked the water tray and it was completely empty! Not good. Is there an easier way to check/add water in the HovaBator 1588? I can't see whether or not there's water in the tray without lifting the whole turner out of the way. I don't have a hygrometer (by choice, I think it would drive me mad!), but I guess I might have to add one. This is our first hatch and I didn't know how often to check the tray. How often do you guys check the water? Is there a way to "eyeball" it without removing the whole thing?

I don't know about the hovabator 1588, but i have the LG still Air and I put food coloring in the water so I could see it. I also have tubes coming out of the top so I didn't have to open the lid to add water. I'll post pics later tonight if I get a chance. good luck.

I thought about food coloring! I just wonder if it would stain the white water tray though and still be hard to tell what's water and what's stained tray. (I also wondered about hatching blue or green chicks, good to know that wouldn't happen!)

Just ordered a hygrometer from Lowes online.

yes, i want to know about your flashlights too because i have a 60 lumen led flash light but still have difficulty seeing inside my maran and ameracauna blue/green eggs...what should i be looking for when it comes to buying a flashlight for ameracauna, maran or welsummer eggs which have dark shells?

I got my LED flashlight from my local grocery store ;-)

I really think mine works great. I paid $3.99 for it at Martins grocery store and its got 9 LED bulbs. I think that makes a big difference. My husband already had a small LED flash light but it only have one bulb and it was not bright enough. How many bulbs does yours have?

oh, is that what that is? extra light bulbs?? see the one flashlight i have says it is 60 lumen and i thought that was powerful..not sure what it's referring to...but i only see one bulb in that one...then i have another led flashlight and i see three small lightbulbs in it...gee, i was wondering why the flashlight looked like that...not sure in flashlights what is strong..i'll drop by home depot today and ask one of the employees, maybe i need a different flashlight...
