Anyone Setting Eggs Tonight 3/31/2011 - Come join me if you like!

Speaking of trial and error. How long can my incubator be over 102 without frying the eggs??? I think this hatch is over for me. I was up all night till 7:30 this morning watching the incubator and it held steady all night so I slept in till 2:30 in the afternoon and woke to 103.5 temps. Of course I got them down in a matter of seconds but Who knows how long it was that high.

Of course I will wait to toss the eggs, but can someone please tell me how long temps can reomain high? Is it over for me?

I still have not candled any of my eggs and tomorrow will be day 7. I am so proud of my patience. It has not been easy. I have noticed an oder coming from the bator. It's not bad. It just smells like hot styrofoam. I can't wait til tomorrow to Candle them to see what's goin' on in there.

artathart- I will tell you a miraculous story. I set 18 quail eggs a couple of months ago right after I bought a LG incubator, It was its first run. It was a real pain and I had to be on constant watch with the temps. Day 14 I had to step out of the house and left hubby in charge (quail hatch usually on day 18). Came back and hubby said the temp got down to 98 something so I turned it up and went outside for awhile and came back and it was 104 when I came back in. WHAT! He figured they were all fried. I decided to wait and see since there were only four days left anyway. I had two quail hatch out on day 18 perfectly fine except the membrane stuck to them and I had to help them out. A third hatched on day 19 and it has a funny head cocked deformity but it doing quite well despite. I have two hens and one roo and the hens have now started laying. You could still have hatchers even at 102 degrees. Just saying.

But then I dont know how long after such a high temp it would take to cook them either. I still cannot see a thing in my Marans or Welsummers so I think I might need a brighter flash light. I may go to Lowes tomorrow and pick one up. 14 more days!!!! I figure by 10 I should be able to tell which eggs can be tosssed right? What should I look for in a bad egg?

Horrible pics....Sorry. Day 7. Only a few with growth that I can see. This is my best egg
